How to free a jammed nut?

Yes, I remember that well - turn the log to chop from the other side and when it went didn't it half fly! A good 20 yards was achievable, and with a bang too. Mine had no guards though, so would have been no fun if I'd had them on.

How to free a jammed nut?

700mm diameter, TC-tipped, made by Stehle £296 inc VAT, August 2023. But carriage to you would be dear. These people have a depot in Fife, also it seems offering the first sharpening free...

How to free a jammed nut?

Sussex Sharpening Services - 01323 871 008. I got a new big blade from them recently and jolly nice it is too. Get top grade, Germanium not Chinesium, and it'll be well worth the extra £.

How to free a jammed nut?

Sorry to miss that out - yes, it is left-hand thread, as we all expected it to be. I guess @Dry Rot put it best: the nut turns off in the same direction the blade cuts. Must remember that... There was no peg or roll-pin. I defo won't be retightening it with an impact wrench! But replacing...

How to free a jammed nut?

Ta-da: I put out a call for a 3/4" drive airline impact wrench to a friendly garage and with that and buckets of easing oil it gradually shifted. Didn't half make a lot of noise about it - the wrench hammering and the nut screaming like a stuck pig. That blade's going on a wall and a nice...

How to free a jammed nut?

You're right - I've had a look through their site and it looks like they've got what's needed. I'll try to get hold of a 3/4" impact driver for my airline, + socket. If that doesn't work, then it's a cutting/chiselling job and a new nut. Last option, baler twine and gaffa tape should do it...

How to free a jammed nut?

I brought it up only to a dull red, as I don't want to weld it onto the shaft. Then wait till fully cold before working. Got it moving alright, but not very far. I could sharpen in situ, but I remember doing that years ago and hating every minute hour of it. And never getting it just right...

How to free a jammed nut?

Good - that's the way I've been working at it. But it's getting tighter, not looser, which is what happens the other way too! I don't know that heating it again will help, but seems like there's no other option, without cutting and chiselling it off. ?? Got hundreds of them here, but...

How to free a jammed nut?

Clearing a chestnut coppice this winter, I've got to point a few hundred spiles and can't face doing them all with the side-axe. So 'acquired' an old pto-driven sawbench and of course there's lots needing to be done. Main thing is to remove the old blade and replace with a new tipped one...

    Attenborough

Not exactly David Attenborough-relevant. Maybe start a new thread, as more people will see it. Or put it in the WTF section?

    Poertequip paint quality?

Paintwork is the first way manufacturers turn for skimping to save money. My Wessex topper, bought as an 'ex-demonstrator', is shedding paint like a snake sheds its skin. It just comes flaking off all over the place. But for creep feeders, same as hayracks, I'd only buy galvanised, just...

    things that make you smile

Does Western = cowboy, or just 'not Eastern'? Could be embarrassing to be dressed up as a cowgirl when all the rest are in smart dresses! Maybe I'm just not seeing the joke here...
