    Champion winter wheat

We grew it, it stood well, but specific weight wasn’t very good.

Into October we upped it to 190 kg/ha.

That field was 160 kg/ha. I can’t remember what the TGW was though.

    2019 all over again?

Yes, we were getting the beet harvester stuck several times a day. We bought our first combi drill that autumn so we could put stuff in right behind the plough, cutting edge stuff for Staffordshire! ;-)

I’m thinking about one. My GD makes a nice job on most of our ground and establishment is generally very good…BUT on our lighter soils the discs just don’t want to turn. I don’t want to go away from the angled disc, hence the Horizon could be a viable alternative.

Champion WW direct drilled after beans, 25/09. Generally ok, just a few signs that the roots are waterlogged.

Interested to know your thoughts on the Horizon.

What % of winter crops not planted or destroyed

More a case of not planted than destroyed here, although I may not know the outcome of the last bits of what we have drilled just yet.

    2019 all over again?

Having driven to Spalding today from Staffs I think I must be in one of the drier counties.

    2019 all over again?

Yes, pee'd it down here last night. It had just started to dry up a little from last week’s rain.

Drilling beans today, it’s ploughed up surprisingly dry.

    2019 all over again?

I’m going to drill some beans tomorrow, resorted to ploughing and combi drill. Looking at the forecast I’m hoping to finish the barley off towards the back end of next week. Quite sandy and quinoa volunteers growing, dd should work ok.

    2019 all over again?

Tied up cleaning Quinoa today, had to be done ASAP, so missed the last opportunity for a while. Not too concerned about going into November with wheat and beans, but got 50 acres of winter barley left to drill which is a worry.
