We are bunged up to hell with the wether and ewes lambing very quick so haven’t manage to empy the adopters, 2 massive 3 day old lambs where sat on last night in them, I’m to the point of saying just send them out with one and forget the bloody things.
Be long dead before they get delivered from them, bloody shocking company now, been waiting 2 weeks for heatwave spares and tags, keep saying they are on there way. Be after Easter now i expect. 😡
I have to keep putting them out, but have been hardened off in outside bale pens, ones that have been in sheds can stay in and are just in make a few extra pens. All makes work though.
All ewes out after 4 crops here now. Decided to creep all the lambs off 4 crop Suffolk crosses this year so I can get the ewes away in June/July as big culls (probably go back to the Tup for someone else).
I was talking to a a chap who lambs a lot outside yesterday in the place where all shepherds meet this time of year (kennels), he said if the weathers good your the cleverest shepherd about but if it’s not your as thick as shite.
The trouble with scanning is it’s very easy for manager to put 1250 x 230% in to calculator and work out the losses 😬. When I was contract shepherding I never told the owner the scanning percentages because the owners definitely never understand lambing.
