Hi all,
NGOs (non-governmental organization) is currently a buzz word in different parts of our industry.
What are peoples views on them and what do you think the top 3 in UK agriculture would be?
Are Red Tractor / AHDB an NGO?
The term ('NGO') seems too big a subject to condense, so I am sorry...
This maybe the updated 2024 version, but it is very clear for SAM2,
What to do
You must establish and maintain a well-established multi-species cover crop over the winter months on land entered into this action. Read ‘When to do it’ to find out what we mean by winter months.
To establish the...
Yes, I know this from when I used to grow catch crops before autumn drilling. I feel SAM2 over winter has to be chosen carefully and have a plan for it when it does get wet. Also trying to smother blackgrass, but if it doesn't smother the blackgrass, it will still do birds / insects and the...
Do you find it a problem with direct drilling straight into it or do you plough it in?
I don't particular want a winter / spring we are experincing this year with a dead cover crop. Could do more harm than good, as most of it would have died off and wont be sucking the moisture out. On the plus...
I am looking at entering SAM2 within my SFI application, but I am considering all the cons.
My farm has an awful rabbit population, so one of my queries is if I chose a , mustard, raddish, phacelia mix, would rabbits destroy them & then not gaining the benefits of the said cover crop.
If anyone...
thanks. I will have a look at that option. Another reason for the Mustard is to get a natural die off with frosts, although a sprayer would be going through before drilling for any grass weeds
cheap and cheerful for a taster
Thinking 15kg/ha max , would be £710, but I would possibly go to 10kg/ha after doing some research and speaking to others.
Cheap experiment
Some really heavy bits we leave over winter and then plough in the spring (feb onwards) for spring barley.
I just want to experiment with a cover crop, rather than leaving soil bare or stubble bear over winter
Thinking of doing 3 field trials (15 ha in total) summer 24 into spring 25 with White Mustard only. (heavy clay)
Establish the mustard DD after combine , hope no harsh frosts until December / January & then spray off.
1 field disc and drill, other mow, ploug , drill & other spray & DD into it...
Question to the experts on here, are the storage companies now looking at battery storage on 400kv pylons?
After a quick google search I see there are plans around UK for these storage plants.
There is a battery storage base in a substation (which is 400kv) near me, but we are on the same line...
What company is that with & what part of the country are you?
I have a friend who works for a renewable company & they are primarily looking at 'non anchor pylons' due to the cost of justifying anything above 132kv.
It sounds odd as I was approached because of the anchor pylon and the location...
