    Mule or quad

Health and safety wise mule. Getting that group of stubborn dry cows to move quad bike. We once demo'd a mule. Had one group of cows drove back to the farm to get the quad bike to move them. Bike remained on farm mule returned to dealer. They don't have quite the same agility.

    Foot crush

How much is a GDS. I just love our ekochute and I think it's as close to a hydraulic crush that you can get on electric but probably a bit more money than a gds https://ekochute.com/hoof-trimming-crush-electro-chute.html

    New limits to SFI.

What have I missed in this. As far as I was concerned the grassland options available to me were Sam3 and clover. Neither of those have been altered.

It would be interesting how many farmers have open claims at the moment. I have an open claim even though as a dairy farmer i think it will be unlikely I sign up to much. I would have thought a lot of farmers that were thinking about it have at least started the application process. So it's...

    Milk Price Tracker

It's significantly above what commodities are realising at the moment. If things don't change next arla move will be down and it won't be far away.

    All things Dairy

The economics are even worse as we are TB restricted but they do leave the farm. However the growth rate is hugely important to me because if I can grow a calf fast enough to get it away at 14-21 days that is a huge saving over having to keep it for another 3 weeks until the next collection...

    All things Dairy

Nothing at all wrong with calves and they will produce the cows you need. I think the slight anomaly some are picking up on is 1kg of powder a day should be yielding nearer the 0.8-1kg a day growth. 0.6kg would potentially be nearer the 750g of powder. Is 250g of powder not quite performing...

With all this new stainless steel those will be the factories that survive in a world market where milk supply tightens in the UK because of their efficiency. It will be the old less efficient legacy factories that will struggle to pay enough to retain a large enough milk pool. Less efficient...

What other significant dairy processing investments have been made since Aylesbury in the UK. Mona dairies but I don't know how much. Apart from that it was probably Westbury nearly 20 years ago. Can't think how long ago Muller Bridgwater was but it was Wiseman's so a while ago. So most other...

    Thoughts please 2

1 you won't save any straw but it will make life easier. 2 we have a straw blower but all calves are bedded up by hand until after weaning 1 because we just can't make milk drums work with blowing straw and as others have said don't really like flinging the straw and dust at young calves...

No it will actually exacerbate the peak. It will take X percent of milk every day. That will mean that the peak becomes a larger percentage of the tradeable milk. It will also increase the risk of the trough because it will need full milk supply then as well and there is no spare milk in the...

As a mozerella plant it will be no use at all for the spring peak. Whole aim of mozerella is to get it out the door asap and minimum to store so it's going to need a flat profile to keep the factory happy.

Building it outside the EU maybe exactly the right place to build it if you want to serve the global market. Arla already has the EU market covered. EU direction of travel may have altered very slightly after the protests but if you want to build a new factory and fill it with milk the UK is...
