Our ground source heat pump works well. Heats the whole house and does all the hot water. We have no other way of heating water. Have a log burner but it rarely gets lit. Five times a year perhaps.

Some of my old grassland has been like a bog since the end of June and is actually getting worse. I am just fencing one field so the sheep can have it rather than making hay. Picture was 10august last year when it had dried out enough to make an attempt at clearing the crop.🙈😀 I have made hay...

Our local town used to be prone to bad floods after heavy rain. So many years ago they built a dam with an open flow upstream of the town. If the flow increases drastically they shut off the flow and store the water till it can be released when conditions allow. Seems to work very well.

@Clive you are on flattish, heavy land im thinking. How are farmers getting on with the wet round you?

There has always been extremes in the weather. Very wet years. Drought. Snow. High temperatures. Low temperatures. But for the last 10 years there have been records broken far regularly than over the previous 100 years. It's difficult to see how to plan for this.

It certainly is not showing any improvement. Some farmers will be getting desperate now. We did hear of a potato grower recently has called it a day and packed in due to the continuous wet conditions.

It seems to be continuous extremes nowadays

If the wet weather we have experienced for the last nine months was to be the "normal" I think I would have to pack in. It's just too miserable and hard work! Hopefully it's a one off season.

The smaller the plot the dearer it is round here. An acre plot made 200k nearby. Just because it was on the edge of the village and between two houses. That will of been just a potential building in the future price.

We do haylage in 80×70 squares. Going down hill bales hang on the back of the baler and drop on the headland. So you end up with a bit of a maze to negotiate through with the baler and a rake stuck on the front. With round baler you select where to drop the bale

I had one. Probably OK with big fields and round bales. Small fields and squares it was more hassle than it was worth. Corners need a bit of thinking about. In bad shaped fields it was hard work. Best getting a demo
