    Warburtons Contract

Expecting all UK consumers to buy all their grain through a "National UK Co-Op" leaves them with one option.... Openfield! In the same way we would not want an industry with Frontier being the only buyer when we sell grain, why should we expect consumers to do the same?! Plenty of UK farmers are...

    Warburtons Contract

In many parts of France farmers have one buyer too and that is the local co-op. In the UK we are fortunate to have competition and options when either selling grain or buying inputs, if you don't want to deal with Frontier you don't need to, same with Openfield, ADM, Cofco, Glencore, Robin...

Wrong. Canadian imported wheat is not GM.

    Warburtons Contract

Warburtons have clarified the situation on Twitter: "At Warburtons we've made some changes to our wheat supply chain so we are set up for the future. We will continue to source 50% of our wheat from UK farmers and have no plans to change this. In fact, as we grow the amount of wheat we buy from...

    Warburtons Contract

Olly seems far more concerned about racking up retweets and likes from the misinformed people rather that correcting them. Silence is no defence! His post has clearly mislead thousands.... I am sure deep down he feels quite silly for not clearing up the details sooner, if not he should. I am...

    Warburtons Contract

Olly it is very misleading to refer to Frontier as a "US owner multinational".... if you dont believe me and want evidence of that, just look at the comments on your Tweet and how it has been interpreted by the UK public. You have made the UK public believe that US imports are replacing UK...

    Warburtons Contract

Thank you for clarifying. I didn't realise the structure. Does anyone know which parts of the business are "Group" and which parts are "Ag"... e.g. which parts are profitable / not? Clearly they are doing something right in the mix.

    Warburtons Contract

I have just read this and cant believe it! Regardless of opinions on Frontier or Openfield etc, Olly Harrison as a UK farmer should be ashamed of himself. He has let his poorly worded tweet get hijacked by misinformed people now looking to boycot Warburtons products as they think US GM wheat...

    Warburtons Contract

I was wrong ....Openfield did lose money. Looking on companies house at their most recent full accounts made up to 30th June 2019 (filed 31st May 2020). They made "A loss before tax of £2,767k" https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03548572/filing-history That said you would never know...

    Warburtons Contract

@Hedger Could you share the Openfield results for this year, I thought they had made money (for a change) this year but I maybe wrong? I feel sorry for their decline, they have some good Reps and have a place, but I can't see the rot stopping for them anytime soon....

    Warburtons Contract

Frontier are now responsible for marketing plenty of British farmer owned co-op members wheat... I would assume that this is good news for those co-op members? Strange Openfield did not appear to be consulted in the decision.

    Warburtons Contract

Just seen this news on the Farmers Weekly website... More bad news for Openfield as they now lose their flagship contract to Frontier: https://www.fwi.co.uk/business/markets-and-trends/crop-prices/warburtons-swaps-openfield-for-frontier-as-supply-partner

Why do you deal with your Grain Merchant?

I was thinking earlier the reasons people deal with the grain merchants they do, obviously there are several different reasons but what is important to you: Financial Security? Pay the best prices? Supporting small local merchants? Good relationship with local Rep? Access to unique grain...

    Openfield results out

Regardless of the "accounting", if we accept the £400k profit, I think that it is still alarming considering they turned over £628 million.....
