depends a little bit on when they were born but I’d guess that after calves there’s not a huge amount of market locally for autumn borns At a premium until the grass starts to grow in April.
4-5 weeks is the sweet spot it would seem. At 8-16 weeks somewhere they enter the void where they cost you a fair bit of money but seem to gain no value at all.
I won’t put culls through the ring live for this reason. I adore my stock, they work hard to look after me and my family. The least I owe them is the quickest most stress free and painless end. No judgment on those who choose other routes either but I am uneasy about moving calves still on milk...
going to have it as one big pad for the moment and use free standing a walls when funds allow. We’re using the money saved on more cow tracks,troughs and a slatted tank so the auto scrapers don’t over shoot.

i would be uneasy about data being “collected” about my herd without me agreeing to it. No issue if they ask and I chose to. I think washing times are often forgotten too. I think we around the 20minutes mark for a 16:32
