    Foot rot - footvax

I'll trim a ewe's foot once, and allamycin if necessary but she will be marked for culling. I have plenty ewe hogg replacement so not afraid to cull out problems. At the same time trying to up numbers too so don't want to go too extreme, I have 390 ewe hoggs to play with this year. I culled 250...

    Foot rot - footvax

We're getting more and more foot rot here. Pretty strict at culling any bad feet before tupping but it just keeps on appearing in others. Tups are the worst. I buy hill Cheviots at Dingwall and try to stay clear of anything that looks like it has feet problems but a year later and their feet...

    Dear Minette Liz and Rishi

Heard a story about one fella I know, qms asked do you haul your own livestock? Yes. Do you have a plan in place for any emergency that may occur during transport? He replied - they're are public toilets on my route to the mart

    Dear Minette Liz and Rishi

Activist activity plan - tell her you keep a loaded 12 bore in the parlour with you just incase. From my experience you can tell them / write down anything you want as long as it's a slightly plausible answer. Whole thing is a joke. I didn't have a rodenticide environmental risk assessment or...

    Sheet your load.......

I've shifted thousands of bales and never had any fall off on a public road. Had plenty fall off on farm tracks when I was a kid but that's how you learn to build them on a trailer properly. Only going a few miles a single 3rd row and no straps. Longer distances a full trailer and use straps...

    Sheet your load.......

Wouldn't dream of it. The trailer light socket doesn't work on that tractor

    Sheet your load.......

Some people don't know how to build bales on a trailer. You could have all the straps in the world and have the bales hanging all ways like hoor's fanny and it be a lot more unsafe than a properly built load without straps.

    Sheet your load.......

I doubt the brakes on that old trailer will be fit to anchor it hard enough for that to happen. Only way those bales will fall off is if it ends up on its side... Then straps will just slow down the job of getting it righted and re loaded before some do gooder calls it in

    Sheet your load.......

To be fair the old maxxum is not the usual pony to draw that cart. Trailer is a one off build (not for me, I bought it second hand). It's a 12t grain body built to dump trailer spec, 10mm floor, 8mm sides, 26t running gear. She's 6.75t empty, be about 23t in it there, it will tip that but not...

    Maxxamon treated grain

I wonder if ad blue could be used a grain preservative. It is 40 odd percent urea. Hose it on through an auger.

    Cows or no cows

I would say the machinery side of it maybe isn't such a huge cost yet but looking ahead it could get expensive to replace equipment like for like. Having had 200hp+ for the past 15 years we've ended up running with a few bits of kit that would struggle on smaller tractors. Forage wagon (got some...
