Shipments of New Zealand lamb have dropped to a third this last three months due to the troubles with the direct shipping route through the Suez canal. It's costing 20 more times the financial cost to insure the cargo. A big factor in the bouyant lamb trade. 1800 tons instead of 5500 tons.
It makes me think that with all these Farming connect training courses for mostly (but not all) trivial things and massive expense there really should be some serious thought in apprentices for the understanding and teaching of the next generation of land drainage contractors. Our fields have...
Doing a bit of draining today the discussion was are there there any skilled drainage people out there anymore. A generation ago there was but these men have passed away. Drainage was supported by grants, our farm has eyes popping up here and there but who to turn to now who has the skill set?
Macs have been a big saviour here especially after finding new supplier they actual stay on for a while !! until lamb strengthens and grows out of them.Sold some own hoggs last week for £180 so a 30p mac is excellent value.

Put sixty lambs out yesterday as sheds rammed all bagged had two hours of hellish rain, all still on them this morning all standing a dry back and a 30p investment a no brainer. More on order!!
With the high prices now this autumn would be the time to cut down if that is what any farmer is considering, breeders will be very dear. Poll this week said average age of farmers is now over 60 and rising!!
Go both ways with hoggs horses for courses as such so a reasonable judge of weights prices. Our hoggs would be equivalent of circa £9 DW for mainly hill bred In market today better sheep would be more. I don't see many sheep on the market next week? Had thought the mythical £10 was off the mark...
All ours go out with Macs on . Found some Macs this year from new on the market supplier that actually stay on since the old supply finished.Had struggled to source anything last year.
