Absolutely no chance Of that. A potential 31% cut in milk income over 3 months is catastrophic. I assume the senior management and boards of directors in all the processors will be taking a 31% pay cut as well - because their remuneration packages are performance related and linked to milk...

If those price drops are right - how long is it likely to last at that? With costs at the level they’re at (not falling very much if at all) and interest rates upto the levels they’re now at that would wreck a lot of farms pretty quickly. How did all the processors get it SO wrong SO quickly???

    Red Tractor Review

At this stage the whole RT thing is an utter disgrace. I agree fully that a sensible standard needs to be kept by all farmers but the extent of the utter madness that this has now got to is incredible and now a document out last week from them where they are reviewing and brining in more hoops...

    Small dairy herds

Exactly same here - wrong side 50 and all in real good order sheds/plant etc, very low debt levels. Going back down from 90 to 60 ish and carry few more of my calves through to strong stores or beef. That gets me back onto right side of nitrates, have to carry less replacement, carry few more...

    Small dairy herds

A lot of good posts here -I’m very similar to a lot people here - Am NOT going to do Hampster on the wheel!! An old neighbour used to always say “the wee fire will warm you BUT the big fire can burn you” - so true.

Not just the same as you Whitewalker but I find that in farming a “less is more” attitude seems to be true for me anyway. I like to try and keep things as simple as possible. I like a reasonable fertile utility type Friesian cow, don’t chase too many litres or numbers, and enjoy what I do and...

Our folks always counted on making £1000 a cow profit decades ago - heavily pasture based low cost system, With easy managed cows. Hard to believe after all these years we’d be delighted to make a grand a cow profit 🤔🤔

I’m definitely not pleased with price, and something needs to be done about transport charges. Every DF meeting i mention it I’m told “ahhh but Lakeland have the cost built into their price” .... and I’m like YES and they still can pay same or more so that’s NO argument. Honestly don’t care...
