Feed chopped silage to ours and never a problem. Did have some problem with some long haylage. Have you got enough sheep in the pen to keep the slats clean.
Used to have them years ago, wasn’t a fan…..eat more than a good Welsh ewe, don’t have any better lamb, arent as hardy and last about half the time, other than that they’re great.
The modern beaulah isn’t far off a coloured mule these days,even gained a slight Roman nose.

Have tried it once in past as a last resort and worked great ! Doesn’t take long at all for then to learn not to kick. Putting shackles on was most fun part
If you’re using a beltex on ewe lambs hoping youl have beltex finished before Charolais then you’re p**sing in the wind . And in my opinion out of a mule you won’t have those shapey little lambs that will sell for a serious premium to make up for it either. But they’re perfect for lambing ewe...
The heads of the blackie tups seem to be getting wider and shorter, some are even wider across top of their head than they are from the top of head to tip of nose. Is this effecting lambing ease?
Dartmoor and west of England type blackies are crackers, had some store blackie ram lambs from down there and they were strong long good coated and finished very well. Some of them going back up north would help no end ……
Tried a bunch of 150 once. Never know lambs so hard to get finish on. And when they do they’ve got about as much shape as a nackered Holstein cow. Good job they were cheap.
Another bunch of Texel x Swales in them from same place were cracking sheep and finished real well off grass in the spring .
