Depends what you do with the bench. My benches are heavy steel top and I am always tacking and welding things to the top for mag drilling or straightening.
If you aren’t planning on any welding on the bench then yes wood may be ok. I like steel though as it can be polished clean with a flap...
Currently I have a Jasic 250amp. Had an Oxford before that. I prefer the jasic. Will probably change to a warrior welder in the summer though they seem to be the most powerful on single phase.
As an ice breaker I suggest you go wait in the barn and when somebody does arrive you approach them like this and ask if you can have a chat about things
For the money and ease of use I have found Superon SuperHard welding rods to be very good. No one has complained at anything I’ve hardfaced using them. They are Indian made but I rate them.
In container here I have an under bonnet LED light from sealey I think it is. Magnetic on each end. Sticks to the roof and is long like a strip light. Works well

over here is usually flexible suction hose which is spiral reinforced. Normally 5-6 meters length ran off a diesel pumpset.
Pump houses would be steel pipe or on longer distances such as yours then PE pipe fusion welded together normally...
The mrs mobileweld has purchased a fancy new horse trailer. I was wondering if there was any recommendations of a tracker suited to being fitted to a trailer? It’s locked behind a gate with a hitch lock on it aswell. But I like the idea of physically going to retrieve it if it does ever go missing.
