Had my Horner Rambos with a hip battery pack for two years now after a shearer recommended them. Only have about 200 sheep but they're mostly longwools and I like to crutch them out every 3-4 months to keep them clean, so they've seen plenty of use. Also fully clipped a few sheep with them no...
Just piggybacking on this as also hoping to dip for the first time this year. Wanting to dip January/February indoor lambing ewes in early November, will that be enough time to make them safe to handle? How long do you try to leave between dipping and normal handling?
Maybe a combo of sweat and infected glands in some places (eye, foot and groin glands), and some photosensitivity or mites- I think there are a couple of different things going on here. I would blue spray the groin in particular, slather with sudocrem/udder cream, drench and jab with an...
I drenched her yesterday, so I'll see how she cracks on with that! They aren't in a boggy field and we've been pretty high and dry this year anyway, can't say I've seen Bog Asphodel anywhere on the farm before. Only plants around in that particular field were some elder, nettles, burdock and the...
Hell of a tagging job there 😂
I haven't seen Bog Asphodel before, or any ears like that! Whereabouts are you based? I'm lowland NE England, so maybe it's not a common problem here
Took a couple of photos yesterday just of her ears, looks about the same on her heels
As you can see, she's symmetrical at least 😂
I couldn't see any of the plants you've all mentioned unless she's eaten it all! I do have some drench in so I think I might just do that today in the field and...
What would that look like? I googled around, but couldn't find much
The best way I can describe the skin is sort of thickened and a bit crusty. There's no blood or pus, doesn't look sore, it's just quite dry. It's exclusively on her ear tips (covers about an inch in length from the tip...
Some of the lasses were kicking around in the corner of the field a couple of weeks ago- there's an unkempt area where thistles and weeds dried out with the heatwave (not pulled though), she might have nabbed something in there
I did hear about plants causing some strange reactions, but I've...
Truthfully wouldn't know- every now and then I pop them a red crystalyx in (I think that has cobalt?), and don't usually have much in the way of dietary problems, just haven't seen this before
Do you test your soil or vit drench?
I have a Teeswater ewe that has exclusively scabby ear tips and heels. There aren't any scabs anywhere else on her that I can see, and she isn't losing wool
No one else in the flock seems affected, just her. I've blue sprayed a couple of times to no effect, though it doesn't look sore...
