I have read the thread. Polls are easy to digest information but can be taken out of context at times. I haven’t come across the Grocer article though if you have a link?
Yeah, I think for a balanced approach both sides need exploring. Hence in the OP I suggest how I want to talk to those pursuing net zero on farm and those more critical of it.
Of course, there are some farmers advocating strongly for net-zero and those that aren’t. The poll is quite interesting...
I don’t recall asking “what are farmers doing to make themselves net-zero?”
One of my starting questions is ‘What is your understanding of the term ‘net zero and what does it mean for your business.’
Which also links to your question- Are you currently considering ‘net-zero’ on your farm...
Yes, a good range of opinions and interesting thoughts highlighted on this thread. I’m thankful for the discussion.
The starting point aligns more with the second one than the first, but I am not a fan of the set up for a yes or no answer.
Some more specific questions I’d be interested in...
Agree but both are linked
neither really, the second question you raise suggests a yes or no response so I wouldn’t start with that, it’s more complex
the question is what are challenges for livestock farmers in adapting to elms and pressures to become net zero
The over-arching question guiding this research is 'what are the barriers and constraints in livestock farmers adapting to ELMs and legislative pressures to become net-zero'
The plan is to put together a document outlining exactly many of these concerns you are all raising- a policy brief. And...
This is really interesting
I have mapped our farm with the FCT and it is showing that we are nowhere near net-zero. Not that we are trying tbf
But a lot of the emissions were from building materials as the FCT requires you to input any buildings/roads that have been installed in the last ten...
Definitions is one of the issues yes,
Drop me a message if you're willing to chat, will be interested to hear you views.
I'll be doing the Cumbria interviews this and next month
Thanks a lot, Jerry. Thanks for the support.
I'll take you up on that offer when I'm down doing my interviews in Exmoor.
If you could drop me an email [email protected] or DM on here then I can let you know nearer the time when I am headed that way
Internal funding from the university, though I’ll likely go for some larger external funding in the future from one of the larger funders
The project is about supporting livestock farmers in adapting to ELMs and pressures to become net-zero, hence my interest in exploring current views around...
Good point about the data use. It is academic research, the data would be annomized, interviews, recorded and then transcribed. It will then be analysed and written up to create an output- which I envision to be a policy brief (couple of page document highlighting the key messages from farmers)...
