    Weaving GD demo

Had an excellent demo of a GD on spring barley this spring and crop emergence looks superb. I went round the Agrovista lamport trial last week and I'm amazed how relaxed they are about open slots! Saw several plots with the Great Plains where slots were completely open and you can see all the...

    Anyone regret moving to no-till?

Think you're asking a lot to no-till second wheats with a reasonable amount of straw residue, if the straw was removed think the establishment may potentially be better? A lot going on with straw residue breaking down, a scenario where nitrogen in the seedbed would be a bonus.

    Dutch openers

We are predominantly using the 2.5", better in damper conditions as less soil movement, depth control is good.

    Dutch openers, horsch sprinter

Penetration hasn't been a problem at all, sure the Dale would do a decent job in that situation.

    Dutch openers, horsch sprinter

Yes they, work really well for direct drilling, especially the 2.5" coulters, the 5" ones are ok, but very high soil disturbance.

To grow milling wheats as feed wheats?

The glut of Skyfall doesn't help, but it was always going to be the case when a good gp1 with decent yield gained popularity. I won't grow milling wheats unless they are on a minimum premium contract and that has been gradually tailing away the past couple of years. £20 is a minimum and if it...

    Dutch openers

Hi Andrew, prefer the narrower ones for lower disturbance and spring drilling, the 5" ones work well in most situations, just mindful that they do disrupt a bit more.

    New Weaving DD drill

Saw some no tillled wheat by a 3m GD in to OSR & stripped linseed stubble that looked excellent round this way last week.

    Local Authority Inspection /CMI

I had an inspection off the back of this and it was fine. The lady who came out was from a farming background and knew how to make sense of the questions she had to ask.

    Sky Drills

We tried it in the spring excellent establishment & seed placement, generally impressed with it, but in not particularly hard conditions it was nearly on its limit for downforce. The other issue was the price tag!

    Dutch openers

Yes it was, we switched between the 5 & 2.5" this Autumn for different situations, but seed placement is A1 with them.

    Dutch openers

This is no-till Spring barley direct in to some nasty heavy ground after covers from April this year.

    Dutch openers

Might not be a bad idea, find the soil flows back better over the points so covering harrows have a lot less work to do, especially with the 2.5" points.

    Dutch openers

We put the Dutch openers on our sprinter this year, direct drilled all the spring barley with good results and have direct drilled a lot of osr, wheat and covers with it this Autumn. Run the 2.5 & 5" points, I prefer the 2.5" as it disturbs much less, the gap between plant stands comes down to...
