    Leaf blower recommendations

I have a Stihl battery blower and it's great. It depends on how much you want to do in one gp though. It does about 30 mins on a battery. I have a couple of spares as I have some of the other battery tools too.

"Improving Our Lot" - Planned Holistic Grazing, for starters..

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to give it a go with just running the sheep over it this year. It's only our second winter here and we are still experimenting to see what works best for us. Last year the sheep had the run of all the fields over winter. I am much happier with this years plan...

"Improving Our Lot" - Planned Holistic Grazing, for starters..

Do you harrow your winter fields? I have had my sheep plus 4 horses on one large field for the winter. Sheep have the run of the whole lot. Horses are behind 1 strand of poly wire to stop them getting on the wettest bits. It's now pretty bare but the grass is really starting to come through. I...

    Your current weather.

-4.3 last night in Wiltshire and a couple of inches of snow. It's melting already though.

    Are le chameau worth it.?

I found them really heavy and also hot and sweaty. I have Aigle Parcours now and much prefer them.

To sheep or not to sheep

Seeing as you own the land and don't have a mortgage I would definitely say go for it.

    Silly Questions

Maybe look at importing some. I was asked this year if I would send some lambs to Belgium. I had plenty of people on my doorstep who wanted to buy them so I didn't. If wool shedders are hard to come by on the continent then that may be a v good reason to find yourself some. You may well find you...

    Silly Questions

No reason why they couldn't at least wash their face, if not make you money. We have a small flock of Wiltshire Horn sheep and they earn us money, mainly through selling lamb boxes, but we also sell some lambs as breeding stock. Wool shedders are the way to go, especially for a small flock where...

Sad news about North East Crofter

Sorry to hear this. I am quite new here so didn't know him but I, as I am sure others do, find this forum such a brilliant resource and you can be sure he contributed to many farmers' lives across the country.

    To feed or not

If they were mine I would be chucking them out on the hill and letting them get on with it (but keeping an eye on them, obviously), but I am not an expert!

"Improving Our Lot" - Planned Holistic Grazing, for starters..

What do you all do about winter grazing? My sheep winter out. I have 3 main fields. My plan is to leave them on one and start feeding hay once the grass runs out (probably after Christmas) and save the others so that I have good grass for them to go on to in spring/for lambing ( not until...

    Today at work

The sun didn't break the fog at all today. It was pretty atmospheric though.
