    Shifting mastitis

I gave her a higher dosage than body weight of antibiotics today plus metacam. The udder is so swollen it seems as if it’s both sides but think it’s where there is so much swelling in the one side it makes it look like both. Is it potentially a case of the meds dealing with the mastitis but that...

    Shifting mastitis

Had a ewe lamb triplets and mastitis on both sides. Had a big bag but felt soft and normal. Went to check milk and now hard and cold. She’s had a jab of Trymox and metacam and used uddermint. Since then one side has gone down. The other side is very large and firm. The coldness comes and goes...

Bottle feeding lambs - cold milk

I am topping up lambs in the field. I’ve been giving hot bottles but is it right I could give it to them cold? Is there any benefit to hot or cold feeds? They’re a week old.

    When to switch to milk

I always thought colostrum was milk with added good bits but now I’m thinking probably not!

    When to switch to milk

Bottle feeding a lamb. When do you switch from colostrum to milk? Will be around 24 hours old just over now and doesn’t seem keen on taking the colostrum.

    Chesty lamb

Yes, this is what I would normally do, but typically this one arrived when I wasn’t there!

    Chesty lamb

I have a lamb born last Tuesday. Went to put him outside the next day and noticed his breathing was rapid and noisy. Gave him a dose of metacam. Then later some antibiotics. He is lively and feeding and seems well in every other respect. I put him out to a small paddock. Still chesty. Gave him...

    Twin lamb risk

I’ve watched her and no, she’s not blinking excessively. Laying down a lot but then they all do! Looks a little tottery. Making sure she gets extra cake although not sure how much goes to her and how much to the lamb at this stage. I’ve given her a dose of the twin lamb and will monitor as...

    Twin lamb risk

She has access to molassed lick and is getting cake too. She’s just skinny. Looked like condition had improved for tupping but dropped off her now. I’ve also seen her pushing the past couple of days so watching in case of prolapse. Not sure if lambs are making her uncomfortable and she’s just...

    Twin lamb risk

I have a ewe that could be susceptible to twin lamb. She’s only got a few days to go before she’s due. Can I give her some twin lamb solution to keep her right? Not showing any signs but just worried. Thought I’d I could keep her balanced before any problems it would help?

Can you tube feed a week old lamb?

I’ve been giving her some squirts of insta-life. She lambed out so not sure whether she’s weaker because she didn’t get enough colostrum or she didn’t get enough colostrum because she doesn’t feed well. Her twin seems fine. Just doesn’t seem interested in feeding. She weighs 3kg. How much per...

Can you tube feed a week old lamb?

No cleft pallet. Not sure on what tongue tied would look like? She has a tongue and as far as I am getting the teat of the bottle over the top of it. Just won’t really suck. Although I can feel a suck reflex if I pop my finger in her mouth.

Can you tube feed a week old lamb?

Vet said not to give ABs at the moment so as not to knock back the good biotics. It doesn’t seem like she has an infection.

Can you tube feed a week old lamb?

I have a week old lamb. Lambed outside. Always thinner than its twin. Not much get up and go. Saw it peeing so assumed it must be getting something but just isn’t right. Seems lethargic. I’ve checked the ewe has milk. Lamb will go to the teat but no enthusiasm. The lamb’s temperature is around...

Last lambs left losing their appetite

Thanks for this. Someone who buys in store lambs told me to keep chucking the cake at them but to me it seems they’ve lost the excitement in getting it! Maybe I’ll go back to twice a day which is what they were on originally… worth a try. They have access to inside, often shut the door if it’s...
