Working in NZ for next year.

Definitely wouldn't want to stay there for good but perfect for 4 or 5 months of intensive dairy work, 45 mins to get Skiing to was a great plus side too, but could be considered the most boring part of an otherwise amazing country

Herd size/grazing area for robot milking

Just been to a farm in Pleasant Point, NZ. 6 robots 480 x-breds 450kgs/ms 1.5kg/conc/day, worked really well by the looks of things, cows seemed to come out of paddocks easily as long as next pasture is of high quality, but the farm was very well funded.......

    12 and 2

We do 12:2 at home but I'm in NZ at the moment on 7:2 which seems to work well here much better for staff overall although not having many weekends off would be a huge drawback for most in the UK. 12:2 certainly isn't the future for anyone with full time employees

    Oils in grass/silage

Aren't oils added to diets to increase energy which increases milk protein? So protein will drop even if fats improve

    12hr vs 24hr+ paddocks

We are at 12 hr breaks here but like the idea, gives heifers and low bcs cows less competition in the first feed

    Once a day milking

Hello, Been lurking on here for about a year and never posted but here goes, what would peoples opinion on going oad on a liquid milk contract be? Already spring block calving 200 cows, relatively low yielding around 6500l but have scope to reduce costs labour and concentrates massively...
