    Rain tonnes per acre

Simple answer is yes, It does have a compacting effect, but far worse is the loss of structure especially to bare soils. That's where a good Conservation Agriculture type system helps, always keeps the ground covered to protect from wind, rain and sun.

    Gypsum

In my opinion only a soil test can tell you the rate. You would do the same as if you were wanting to apply lime or fertilisers?

    Gypsum

Gypsum isn't a magic cure-all. It can make soils worse, in some situations. Needs to be applied after getting a decent soil test done. Also it won't work as you expect if you apply it and then plough it down. Totally pointless.

    Gypsum

I think the answer given by @melted welly is about right. You can apply more recycled gypsum if its PAS 109 quality protocol or you get a deployment. If you are using mined gypsum you can stick on as much as you like, not that you'd want to though.

    Horsch co 4 updates

@Huntstreet My drill uses the original Horsch Drillmanager (Agtron) system which seems to have glitch somewhere. We have looked at converting it to the original wheel drive system, as yours is. I wondered if it's possible to put in a proper landwheel rather than driving off the packer wheels...

    Horsch Sprinter control box

Thanks for the comments. I am pretty certain you are right because when it works, it works fine. It seemed to get worse across the course of two days and we went over the D plugs and mini-din connectors with some electrical contact solvent, but that made no difference at all. I have read...

    Horsch Sprinter control box

@Two Tone @alomy75 @cb387 @solo @Wheatonrotty Very useful info, thanks very much. Got a long winter ahead to decide what to do with the thing. Bit frustrating....

    Weaving GD user thread

Q’s: 1. Will it still GD or am I wasting my time trying to get a decent/profitable crop? Would prefer to meet the soil in person before I pass judgement 1(a). Use any other type of DD drill, including a Horsch or Claydon. My over-riding thought about this is that a tine drill has a wider...

    Westfield kit car rebuild

@Vizslaman It last ran a few months ago but I din't drive it anywhere, no MOT etc . Its a 1700 crossflow, fairly racy cam and twin DCOE's, high flow oil pump, adjustable cam, etc (I built the engine) with T9 gearbox and 3.54 open diff in a Westfield diff carrier, IRS. There's no excess weight...

    Westfield kit car rebuild

Ashamed to say this is how my never finished Westfield now looks. I IVA'ed and registered it in 2008 and its probably only done 200 miles since. I had great intentions, but other things got in the way.... @FIL46 what gearbox and diff are you running in that?

Can we have a new prime minister now? please!

Gove - after this? (from about 11 mins in). Whenever I need cheering up, I turn to this video, in particular the piece where the interviewer says "I'm staggered. I don't know how you're going to get out of this one, but its going to be fun" The only downside is that his interjection...

Can we have a new prime minister now? please!

I am sure there are plenty with the necessary qualities within the incumbent party , but we probably haven't heard of them, that the MP's are willing to coalesce around.

Can we have a new prime minister now? please!

What! Did you actually read my post?

Can we have a new prime minister now? please!

I am certain I cannot be the only one thinking this, and to be honest have done since the 25th July 2019. Personal politics aside when are the tory backbenchers/1922 committee going to stand up against this self-serving incompetent twit who can now only be harming their party and remove him? I...

    Map for Direct Drilling

If you are going to subsoil, then subsoil and move the soil to alleviate the problem, but the subsoil must be dry otherwise you are achieving nothing other than making the situation worse. LD subsoilers are an oxymoron, pointless. The other fallacy is because they are low draft you can use...
