I don't think you milk cows @Sharpy , when you dry off a cow she might be giving 20/25 litres where does that milk go, its not like turning off a tap !! It leaks out for a few days until the cow starts to dry her self off, its natural for a dried off cow to leak milk.

When a cow is naturally dried off and leaks milk on farm is that a welfare issue ? Oh no because that is not seen by a bloody jobsworth vet.

So tell me why I can send cows at the same time to Hendrie bros and they stand there all night in a shed, get picked up in the morning on a lorry that has brought cattle up from England to Ayr slaughterhouse and they go down to Telford and are not milked and probably not killed till the next...

A local haulier who takes our cast cows to Highland Meats in Ayrshire is getting untold grief from a foreign vet who is telling him it is a serious welfare issue cows leaking milk. The cows are picked up from us between 9 and 11 on a sunday morning and after he has picked up the rest of his load...

We feed 10 kg of draff and beetpulp mixed @ 4/1 bought in the summer and pitted at £22/ton for draff and BF all winter has been 4.5% Fresh loads £33-37

Some dairies have a weighbridge and that is the only way to be 100% sure.

Why does it always happen to the best cows !! I would dry her off and fill the teat with sealant, there was a tape on the market I think called something like Lokapor, it lets the skin breath if you can get some, tape the teat to keep the dirt away from it. Good luck , hope she comes ok next...

@Beef farmer Getting more from grass is not wrong, but if you follow the Regen bible, lashing on lots of nitrogen to get it is .

A few years ago FM spent thousands with Evolution Farming teaching us locally to get more out of grazed grass, that now looks like it was wrong !! I only hope this regen stuff which a lot of makes good sence , does not lead to big cuts in production unless there are big price rises to go with it.

Maybe not yet, but you watch any of the regen stuff on you tube and none plough, so it will be comming that's for sure. And 0.5p/litre will not get you much today @upnortheast you supply direct to the consumer are they asking you about regenerative farming ?

Some of it sounds good, but realy not sure 0.5p/litre will cover the cost of doing the stuff and the min-till equipment.
