    Collings Bros gone

It's the way of the big machinery manufacturers. Force dealers to sell or amalgamate or lose franchise. Stuffs the customer, us, as there's no competition within huge areas. JD forced it through in this area and tbh I think it's a disaster. Keen to sell tractors and machinery. End of. And the...

NFU claiming credit for 25% SFI cap

    New limits to SFI.

It's not enough for very productive land to take that land out of production. You could argue it's land that doesn't need help. But then helping less productive land with subsidy competes with the highly productive land. One size fits all never has worked well and never will. BUT SFI will help...

NFU claiming credit for 25% SFI cap

Spencer just announced a roll forward of underspend so they ain't running out of money. That pot will get bigger as underspend continues, now more so as 25% limit bites. Honestly, it's a complete dog's breakfast, to use polite terminology.

Can only be short supply. The ONLY thing retailers fear!

NFU claiming credit for 25% SFI cap

Except for herbal ley, whole field options now gone. I don't believe any of the running out of money on these threads. Spencer just announced unspent money over the last 2 years rolled forward into this year. They are underspending obv because they are now paying out far less than under BPS. So...

Mr Blenkiron may be happy to give more away to retailers but the vast majority of farmers are not.

NFU claiming credit for 25% SFI cap

I agree, is possible but not without taking land out of production. In the pilot, we could claim for strip till but this is not to be included in any of the main scheme - we did this before we knew what SFI was thought about, to drive down cost of production with compromising yield. Even then...

NFU claiming credit for 25% SFI cap

The only thing the 25% limit makes clear is that it will be impossible to get anywhere near BPS level of funding. In my situation it wasn't possible before this limit but now even worse. So probably will just collect the bits and bobs and continue as before but without the sub.

    New limits to SFI.

It has kept many farms afloat, thereby contributing to over production which HAS kept commodity prices mainly low. The thing most Govts fear is a shortage of food and energy. Without the subsidy there was certainly more risk of lower production. This apparently doesn't matter any more. And...

What should the replacement for SFI look like?

Agree. Been through the livestock bit, albeit in pigs n poultry.

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

On their email about new restrictions there's a Q&A section. I've asked the Q about restriction within land parcels. Will post reply, if I get one.

AIC welcomes Defra cap on SFI actions in move to sustain food production

Maybe we need a slogan. 'Freedom to farm'. I seem to remember it being used before somewhere?
