Oxford University students have voted to ban beef and lamb at campus canteens.
The Oxford University Student Union passed a motion by a two-thirds majority at the weekly student council, though the union does not have the power to change university policy.
Student union bosses will now push to implement the meat ban at eateries on campus, such as in libraries.
The university colleges, however, where students reside and have tutorials, would each have to decide whether to introduce a similar ban separately.
Mo Metcalf-Fisher of the Countryside Alliance said:
“British farmers produce some of the finest red meat products in the world, while complying with the...

Deputy Tóibín said: “We are barely a month and a half away from the Brexit deadline, self-imposed by the Tories, yet both the Tories and the EU are miles apart from one another in terms of agreeing a deal, with the island of Ireland being used as a political football in this game of brinkmanship.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Welsh government have published the Healthy Bees Plan 2030 to protect and improve the health of honey bees in England and Wales.
The plan sets out four key outcomes for beekeepers, bee farmers, associations and government to work towards to help protect honey bees, which continue to face pressure from a variety of pests, diseases and environmental threats including the invasive non-native species Asian hornet.
Honey bees contribute directly to local food production and make an important contribution, through pollination, to crop production and the wider environment.
