Welcome to a brand new series of videos from LAMMA365 in partnership with Krone UK. Called Kronected Stream, in this eight-part series we’ll be peeling back the covers and really getting under the skin of Krone UK, exploring the journey from factory, to dealer to you the customer.

Coming up over the next eight weeks we’ll be learning all about the company, its people, its different departments, its products and, crucially, why it does what it does. A particular focus of Kronected Stream is to really get to know the people of Krone UK, because as we all know, ag is still very much a people business, and it really is the people that make the industry.

In the first episode we’ve got an introduction to Krone UK from its marketing manager, James...

Situation Vacant Stockman/tractor driver role available on 1100 head beef unit - Herefordshire

We are a family partnership with a dairy herd in Oxfordshire and the beef unit here in Herefordshire, both of which supply Waitrose. We take dairy cross calves from around 3 weeks, rear and finish them on site. We aim to make the best use of forage, with rotational grazing and quality silages, in an attempt to grow the cattle quickly, but without requiring huge amounts of concentrates.

The role available is very much cattle orientated, with a lot of time spent rearing calves, feeding a TMR, bedding up using a spread a bale or by hand, scraping and other cattle jobs such as weighing, trimming etc... Any time we get away from the cattle is spent fencing, mowing, fert spinning etc. We do have some arable, but leave most of the work to contractors. We do help out with power harrowing...

Claas has taken a minority shareholding in the Dutch autonomous tractor startup company, AgXeed B.V.

The new company has developed a tractor designed to be autonomous from the ground up, rather than try to adapt existing machines, or create smaller robots dedicated to a limited range of tasks.

AgXeed’s pilot machine is a diesel hybrid powered unit on tracks which uses a suite of software which, the company claims, is easily scalable.

Like many small technology start-ups seeking to gain a foothold in the machinery market, the company also points to the product as being part of a larger system rather than just another way of performing standard tasks

What to do about the lack of grass?

  • 318

Despite rainfall in early May across the UK, farmers are faced with limited grass growth for this time of year.

Wynnstay grass and roots manager, Colin Jones, says although welcomed, this wet weather is still a little too late to offset the lack of grass many are currently faced with.

“With the driest April since 1981, and the Met Office recording the greatest number of air frosts of any April since 19601, we haven’t seen the usual spring flush of grass,” says Colin.

“Ewes and lambs were turned out to grass which has struggled to regrow, and dairy and beef farmers are contemplating when to take the first cut of silage. However, it’s not all doom and gloom if a grass and feeding strategy is reviewed and implemented now.”

Colin says there is still time to introduce short term leys or...

AHDB has announced yesterday it is winding down significant activities on behalf of the horticulture and potatoes sectors.

While still awaiting a decision on the future by Ministers in England, Scotland and Wales, AHDB wants to reassure levy payers their views have been heard following recent ballots in the two sectors.

AHDB is now stopping programmes of work that could be restarted in the future by grower associations, individual growers or the supply chain. This work includes for example, export market access and promotional international trade event work, consumer marketing campaigns and market pricing and insight information. AHDB will continue to deliver limited emergency work on pests and diseases, including the Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU)’s and some...
