Trimble FmX or TMX

We are looking at putting autosteer on our 2 main machines, a NH T7 and a Bateman RB25. I'm the main operator of both, so screen and receiver will need to be moved easily between them. We are looking at adding a NAV controller to the NH T7 (as it is already intellisteer ready) so that it's fully integrated, then put an EZ-Steer on the Bateman. Going to use RangePoint RTX, but undecided on the best screen option, we've narrowed it down to either the FmX (or FM-1000) and TMX-2050 (or XCN-2050) but the "lite" version which doesn't include the full FmX software. Looking for advice on whether the newer TMX lite is a better option than the older FmX?

Hi Slick, the dealer suggested that the TM200 could be mounted somewhere behind the screen or cab pillar to make it easier to move. Would that work or is there more to it than just an extra box and cable to move? Aside from that, how do you find the TMX to use?

You could mount the TM200 like that but it would be an unsightly install, the TM200 would have four cables running to it.
Haven't used a TMX on PrecisionIQ since FMX+ came out.
I like it on FMX+.

I have both on JD's on RTK auto steer and I'm the same as Midlands Ben only using the FMX + but it is future proofing and comes with Glonass which helps offset the extra cost

FMX will be redundant with no updates made available for it after a year or so.
We have just bitten the bullet and gone f two tmx screen and they are far superior superior the fmx screens!

Precision IQ. We run it on our mastenbroek field trenchers using the WM DRAIN programme. There are lots more features available to the TMX than the FMX which allows us to increase productivity of our drainage teams while maintaining maximum output.

Have used fmx on our machines in the past and also for guidance in my previous job and can confirm that the tmx is the better operating system for both uses.

We run our own trimble mobile Base stations with my survey equipment and both trencher teams as most farm Base stations are not suitable for the precice elevation control that trenching needs.
And we are not reliant on our clients being RTK enabled to allow us to drain the most effecient way.

Precision IQ can't run FieldIQ on the latest version of firmware (it can on older versions).
Precision IQ can't run NextSwath (headland turns).
FMX+ can do both of the above.

I'm sure Precision IQ will get all the functionality eventually but it's a long, slow and painfull process.

@topless_matt I can see why you have your own mobile base stations, but if you don't mind me asking, why aren't most farm base stations suitable for trenching. is there any difference between your mobile station to a stand base station.

Once you get more than 2000m from a Base station, fixed or mobile you lose your elevation accuracy.
On your tmx or fmx screen if you look at the elevation reports it will most likely show it in 200mm changes which isn't a lot of good when trying to lay drains at a 0.13 percent grade or even flatter if needed.
Having the mobile Base makes us accurate to 10mm within a 4000m circle of the Base station

Hope that helps.
