Lumps.... going under the knife

Later today I am off to go under the knife to have some odd lumps removed off my neck/spine. They have been growing there for a couple of years, as with most men I just ignored it and put it off. Went to see the doc a few weeks back and 1 look at it and he said, "I don't know what it is so we are getting you in for the chop. Not its getting on for the size of a golf small ball.

Moral of the story, go early and get it checked and sorted. If I went 12/18months ago the doc said they probably would have nipped it out in the doctors surgery. Now I am off to hospital.

Hoping its nothing untoward but stupidly left it too long.

Good luck.
Our kid had one removed from the bottom of his spine years ago, that grew pretty quick, it was an ingrowing hair it had kept on growing under the skin got to the size of a very big marble, and looked like a furball a cat pukes up :yuck:

Well that was a non starter. Surgeon looked at it and said no way was he cutting at it without having a scan to see if it can be identified, so sent home to wait for a scan appointment.

If you're NHS don't take ANY sh1t. I'm not saying the nhs isn't great but until it is identified you have to assume it needs looking at yesterday. Not trying to worry you but I've had a coupe of friends that got dragged along for a while and the not knowing was the worst part. Both are now fine and once the scan was done things moved quite quickly.

Very common ailment of forklift drivers. Can also turn very nasty, Google it if you want to throw up.

Just got to wait now for some results. Spent 45mins in the MRi Scanner (bloody noisy machine, don't think that when you see it on TV) the nurse was non-committal with any info in how long for the radiographer to look at results and pass them on to my consultant.
Sit back and wait for a call now.
Thanks

The internet is a wonderful place for info and news etc. However it is a terrible place when you go looking, 'what is my lump... haha. I should stop looking really because chances are its nothing an worrying isn't going to help anyone. Bloody Google.

MRI results to consultant, to GP, then to you is usually around 10 days here. The MRI is very noisy and the ear plugs dont help much, do they? Did you get the sound that is like an elephant tap dancing in a cave?

Haha yes that's a good description of it. I couldn't believe it when it started, when you see it on TV it just looks like silent machine doing its job. Not someone jackhammering next to your face.

After badgering them every day some mri results are back. But they wont tell me over phone. they are sending to my GP who will then call me to come in. Don't know if that's good or bad

That's just standard practice. Once you get the results you will, naturally, have questions like "ok, what's next", and it's for your gp to answer that, not the mri team. Think of the gp as team manager, everyone else is just another player on the team, each one doing their little bit and reporting back to the boss.
Hope it's good news (y):)

Update. scan was inconclusive so going under the knife for general surgery in a few weeks. Scan did reveal the mass is now 4inches x 5inches and 1.5 inches in depth.. so may be a fair scar getting it out
