Livestock Event: free visitor entry

upload_2016-2-22_8-29-41.png

All farmers and the sector will be able to visit the Livestock Event free of charge.

Event organiser, RABDF has announced open doors atThe NEC, Birmingham on 6 and 7 July, to all farmers together with their families and staff, farm contractors, vets, consultants and the supply trade.

“RABDF’s contribution to help dairy farmers during the major down turn in global milk price with a free ticket to the event in 2015, was an undoubted success pulling in 400 trade stands and over 16,000 visitors, a response similar to the previous year despite the fact at least £800m had been wiped off dairy farming incomes during that period,” comments Livestock Event director, Matt Knight.

“Without doubt, 2016 is set to be a tough year for all livestock farmers which has led us to extend the free offer to an event which has a sharp focus on cost saving and exploiting own resources.

“We are working on delivering an event which will enable all our visitors to share information, ideas and no nonsense practical advice to help their businesses to survive the next 18 months; they will be able to investigate relevant products and concepts that will save money and keep on track, and discover from relevant practical and technical demonstrations, routes to further improve herd and flock efficiency. There will also be a chance to investigate the latest new products and innovation – to help them stay ahead of the game.”

RABDF advises on line pre-registration to avoid queuing.

Livestock Event: focus on feet

Arresting lameness, one of dairying’s continuing major challenges will come under the microscope at the Livestock Event, to be staged at The NEC, Birmingham on 6 and 7 July which offers free entry to all visitors.

Foot trimming featuring the Dutch Five Step method using both a knife and grinder will be managed by Embryonics’ vet, John Dawson, Pieter Kloosterman who has over 35 years of experience as a professional foot trimmer, and Category 1 foot trimmer, Craig Lawrence. The popular demonstrations which will be repeated four times each day, will be supported with independent commentary and additional information on locomotion.

In addition, the event will be staging Healthy Feet, a practical workshop, supported by AHDB, designed to help farmers understand more clearly what causes lameness, its impact and how to reduce incidences. Each session will focus on how to recognise lameness in the early stages, followed by prompt and effective treatment.

Livestock Event director, Matt Knight comments: “We are aware that lameness impacts on at least 50% of the herd during any one year and incurs horrendous accompanying costs, consequently maintaining feet in tip top condition will once again be coming under the microscope with two major features.”
