Feed them some steel! You know it makes sense. How long since drilling?

A few slugs here but they are well underground at the moment. Some grazing on volunteers and a few crawling on the underside of the combine header each morning.

Well i think it could be the answer(steel) 8-9 days since sowing . Have been either drilling or rolling for the last couple of days with Julian and his claydon and i am starting to think that a bit more disturbance ain't a bad thing as the purists make out.
Some of his has been raked twice then terrastared then claydondrilled and double rolled . Must say it does look a picture and still think that a claydon drill still does exactly what rape seed wants for a good start a bit of fine soil for good seed contact with a easy rooting zone to get the tap root down ..
Just been out with a torch crawling around on my hands and knees looking for slugs not many found tonight yet a few csfb but not many , may be i will go out in the early hours got to see what we are up against.
I do think a bit of disturbance helps a bit as the stubble turnips that were put in with the same idea just spun on seed and a light discing and rolled are not as badly affected .
The only reason we didn't want to disc the rape in was to save on pre ems again but i think we weren't very clever and it has bitten us firmly in the arse
At least the only real costs will be time and diesel and the seed was straight of the heap so only a few penny's their .
