I

Is it wet with you?

For the promise last week off the weather forcasters, that this week will be dry and sunny, we have had rain of some sorts every day this week, and its been overcast most of the day after, so its not dried out at all.
I have a slurry pit thats 3/4 full, but have had too much grass to empty it this back end, have been emptying it every so often after the cows come out of each field, i grazed my wettest fields at the end of september, begining of this month, incase the weather changed, the weather has changed, i wouldent say its wet, but its just a bit too damp, desperately need it to dry up a bit so i can get the slurry out. Most of the fields will take the tractor and tanker, but the gateways won't . :(

Its a badly designed system by adas back in the 80s, the barstewards should be lined up and shot !!!!! They didn't factor in north wales rainwater into the equation, when sizing up the pit and yard area when designing the whole setup.
I have a setup in my head, that would sort all my problems, its just i dont have the cash in my pocket to do it.

I've had an assessment from acorus....and that was wrong as well, but no comeback on the balls up! Glad i didn't pay for it but catchment sensitive farming did!

Had a flyer through the post a while back, as we are in the upper dee catchment area, they were offering a 'CONFIDENTIAL' farm audit that would highlight any problem areas within the farm for poloution issues.
1 There was no money to do any remedial work.
2 who else would get a hold of this confidential information ?
and 3, one of partners of the scheme was some animal sanctuary of sorts ! Wtf !!!
Jobs for the boys comes to mind.
Flyer was quickly put in the recycling box.

I got caught into doing above but didn't realise was no money until they were here. Complete waste of time and will be much more cautious next time.

Yeah, sometimes I wonder why I read this thread. Came in the other night having had a stinker off a day, having lost a good heifer calve that pneumonia took the hold off and shot a cow that went down on the slats only to see nice pictures of cows grass and galvanised sheds going up......

Most of is just put nice pictures up but this one of Fegiemans is my favourite for a long time.

I had a nice in calf heifer hang herself a couple of years ago. It appeared she had got over one fence and on top of an earth bank hedge then she must have slipped down and got her head stuck in the V between two branches of a tree. It was quite a sight, she was well dead and blown when i found her.

Your not alone with having losses, I took some beef calves in last week and am one down this week, cracking calf too. Same day had a good cow down in cubicles but managed to get her out and into a straw pen but she will land up as a cull. It never happens to the shite that you would be glad to be rid of.
