Does TM125 need head done?

2002 and just touching 10k hrs.

Some say leave well enough alone.

Others say I'm now at greater risk of dropping a valve and possibly big trouble. Best to spend £1500-2000 and get new valves, pressure tested etc and then you are covered?

How about new genuine valve collets (cotters) leave everything else in place? They can be changed with head in place. Dont bother pressure testing, money wasted.

If it ain't broke................

Those powerstar engines go on for ever, we sold a TM 120 with 1450 hours on, and it still pulled like a train and burnt no oil.

Was just talking about this a few days ago with a contractor I used to work for. Know it crops up on here every so often so thought I'd ask him what the costs are. He has had two 6 cylinder powerstars drop valves at over 10000hrs, a late 8360 and an early TM155. The 155 cost just short of £5000 to put right. The following winter he got the heads done up on his other two 155s and the 140 at the cost of £1000 each.

I also have a late high bonnet t6070 at over 4k hrs. What do folks think of the 6.7 for durability?

Trying to work out whether to change the TM to a t7 200 and move the 6070 into second place, or spend money on the TM.

Up front cost, fixing the TM is cheaper. But still have an old tractor that might do something expensive in the gearbox someday. And, would still need to change the 6070 in no more than two years to keep my main tractor fresh, so big money going out at some stage anyway. Plus TM has borderline capabilities acting as reserve to the 6070 in a number of tasks these days. The killer is the money required to uplift from TM to a new or ex hire t7. Over the long run I'm not sure it would be much more expensive though as it kicks the changing of the 6070 into touch. Opinions appreciated.

Done our TM 150 at 10k as a precaution, mainly as I was scared of a bigger bill. Have a 155 getting on for the same hours, not particularly keen on spending the money at the minute, though neither tractors have cost a lot in running costs. Probably best to bite the bullet.

Best to do them at over 9000 hrs I traded in an 8360 no damage only a piston and valve seat , one with the head damaged beyond repair ,and one with the block cracked , in the workshop at the moment is an 8090 fiat with a dropped valve

Ok. Field work now over and the 125 was sent into the dealer to get the studs on the exhaust manifold sorted. I'm sure you've seen it many times before. Four had broken off and she was starting to get a bit noisy. Can't see many of the other studs screwing out without the drill either.

As per other thread, garage manager noticed the damper was needing done too, so he's just told me he'll sort it for £500. So I said do it. Now that I've started spending money on it, I'm leaning towards keeping it another 4000hrs and doing the head.

I do need a front linkage. What should I be paying for this one please?

My 8360 had a knackered flywheel damper replaced just short of 7000 hours. Had the tappers checked a few months ago at around 7700 hours and none were found to be out of tolerance. These are mechanical tappers of course. Hydraulic tappers that are self adjusting were introduced some time in TM production.
