Sorry but any ploughman worth his salt would know that mouldboards and salt definitely do not go together.

As it gets later in the season it's fatal not to oil the boards correctly before the journey home. If the salt gets to them it takes at least 2 matches to get them bright again.

Bear in mind he has only had the plough a few months, it being rescued from a nettle bed prior to that, and has only done a couple of matches, its not exactly going to be bright in the first place

the funny thing is, him ploughing the beach has got more media attention than anything the SOP or other organisations do...it even made it onto the local radio station, so it cant be all bad can it.

I would imagine the local authorities and the environmentalist are going berserk. He will be lucky to get away with that unless he owns the beach or has prior permission.

Have you ever been to Cornwall?

If you have, you would realise that this is normal behaviour that is taken as part of day to day life, its a different pace down there, different lifestyle, very laid back, people just mind their own business and let people get on with it

Yes, I have been to Cornwall. They do everything on the coast, cause shipwrecks, bring ashore contraband and even tunnel for minerals under the sea. Fascinating place and nice people.

I live 2 miles from the sea in south cumbria, this summer after after putting a new set of boards on our KV we were struggling with soil sticking to them, as has been traditional in this area for many years i nipped down onto the beach and ploughed an acres or so, i went back and carried on ploughing and it had worked a treat.

I did whilst on the beach put a picture on twitter which was pretty popular, but the next day all hell broke loose, first i had a phone call from the police (National), then a call from the county police, a visit from a police officer and 2 phone calls from natural england which included a good bollocking.

All this after being reported by a man from Cambridgeshire.

Seems strange.

Up here, it is legal to go below the high water mark and shoot ducks, geese etc on most of the coastline, even with people walking dogs etc nearby, but Plough a few furrows, which isn't dangerous for anyone, and is restored to normal with the change of tide and there's hell to pay??????
