Scottish independance poll, for those that don't live in Scotland

Are you against scotland becoming independent ?

I voted Yes.

50 years ago I believe Scotland could have successfully become independent. Now, I believe it would be a financial disaster for Scotland and its people.

My wife and I intend to return to end our days there and we do not want it to be independent of rUK and a member of the EU. If that happened, it might well be enough so that we do not return and some corner of a foreign field will be forever us.

It's the democratic right of the Scottish people to have a free and independent Scotland if they so choose. But like Brexit there's no going back if the field isn't as green as they thought it was going to be.

I'm all in favour of Scottish independence as its English independence too, from the socialists north of the border who seem to have had a disproportionate impact on the governance of England over the years.

I'm also entirely fed up with all the Scottish moaning and blaming everyone else for their problems, and when given a chance of Freedom! they bottled it and voted to stay, and have continued to moan ever since. England and Wales had a chance of freedom in June and we grabbed it with both hands, despite massive amounts of negativity being shovelled our way by the BBC and all the major parties.

An independent Scotland will be brilliant, because it'll be run by socialists, and when people moan about the Tories and capitalism etc they can just be told 'Well go and live in the Socialist Workers Paradise of Scotland then!'. And when it crashes and burns (as all socialist states do eventually, this isn't a judgement on Scotland's actual ability to make independence work if they did it right) we'll be able to use it as an example of why you don't vote socialist.

The direction of travel for an independent Scotland will most likely be towards Nordic style politics.I don't know if they are Socialist Workers Paradises but they look less likely to crash and burn than post Brexit Britain.

Nordic countries operate a model that is little understood on the Left in the UK (where they are often touted as role models, mainly due to their high taxes and extensive welfare system). The Nordic economic model is resolutely pro-market and private ownership with regards to business, but one of high personal income and expenditure taxation, allied to widespread social welfare provision. I have no doubts that an independent Scotland would rapidly acquire the latter (high taxes), its the former (being pro-markets and pro-business) I think it would struggle to find to its taste, yet those attitudes are crucial to making the Nordic model work.

I voted no because I believe in democracy. I honestly believe that it would be a wrong decision but also believe that it should be up to those in Scotland to decide what path to take.

Shouldnt the rest of the UK have a chance to voice our opinion of whether we want the Scots in our union.
Sometimes I think we should pre-empt a Scottish referendum by having one of our own

Such a referendum is entirely legitimate. The UK government can bring forth legislation to hold one any time it likes for the consideration of parliament.

Hi everybody, first post on the site...
Living in the heart of Scotland I'd like to point out that it's not only Scottish natives that were voting to have independence or not. There's a massive population of incomers around here, mother included, that all had their say, a few of the English I know were all for splitting from the rest of the uk
