Fair play if it's your first go pal! When splitting them I usually leave wheels on, pipe over pto shaft and one on each wheel to roll her apart, but I'm not usually removing the diff? Was there anything wrong with the crown wheel and pinion? The seal that is broke is like a tefflon and when you put the new one in, fill the groove with Vasalene to stick them in when you re-assemble. Follow the book and you'll be grand!

Thanks for the info, I was thinking something along the same lines for the seal just to make sure it doesn't get damaged again :D then pressure test it before putting it back together. Nothing wrong with the diff I just couldn't fit the clutch pack out of the handbrake hole with the pinion still in. Are you a NH mech? have you done one before with the same problem?

Still waiting on the parts, hopefully they will be in on Monday. Got some other jobs sorted in the mean time.

This is the proper grease for the cross shaft splines.

Anyone running a modern tractor with electric spools and electric solenoids really needs one of these, plug it into the hydraulics every month or so and let it filter the oil. Cleans it down to 1 micron and can make black dirty oil clean and clear again.

As some one has said use Vaseline to hold the Teflon seals in, (not grease as it doesn't break down into the oil fully and can block a gallery ) also I rotate the seal joins so they are not next to each other when fitting those type

Theoretically it will extend the oil intervals, in my other job most hydraulic oils are filtered and then sampled every 3 months, if the oil comes back bad its changed out and we also look into why it went bad, catch a lot of problems early on.

I'm only using it to keep the oil clean between services. With all the electric spools and solenoids on machines now it's mainly to help maintain reliability. Roughly 75% of all hydraulic failures are down to contamination.

I paid a bit less than on the price list above, it was £400 with 1 filter and they are roughly £40 or can be bought in bulk for less. Anyone really interested I can give you the guys email address.

I haven't long had it out so its not been used yet except checking for leaks but my plan was to let it run for 2 or 3 hours so it has enough time to filter the complete oil a couple of times, the longer you leave it the better.

Interesting thread, hope it works out.

I'm curious to know where are the samples sent and how are the results formatted so that you know if the oil is ok or not? Thanks

how long do you let it run through the filter? At 2l/m I presume it takes a while?

it seems like a great idea, you just plug it into spools and leave the tractor pumping for 2 3 hrs ?

would a modern tractor pumping at 100l min not pressurize the whole thing and send it sky high ?

No need for it to be at 100l min but as it has a feed and return and only minimal restriction the pressure won't get very high. I will hazard a guess that the op will be running them off the power beyond couplings anyhow to slowly circulate the oil
