Massey 6150

Hi All,

A very frustrating day rescuing our stranded 6150 from a busy road junction rather than working!

Our 6150 has been pretty reliable compared to some of the horror stoories I've read, but today it's all gone wrong.

The tractor was driving fine then, lost power and drive suddenly (Engine still running fine). There were no bangs or otherwise untoward noises. On the dash the transmission oil filter warning light has come on, as well as the transmission oil low pressure light.

none of the auxillary hydraulics are working at all. The loader and steering have also stopped, the clutch pedal has gone very heavy and the brake pedal is now spongy. You can put it in gear, but releasing the clutch there is no drive.

Fluids levels are correct and it was serviced including filter replacement a hundred hours or so ago.

Its dark now, so its a job for tomorrow but I'm looking for a point in the right direction diagnostically?

I know these tractors have electrical gremlins, should I start with the box of tricks under the cab, or does this sound more mechanical or pump related?

Any help appreciated as ever.

Thanks

As above..... my money is the rubber damper donut. I did mine myself, wasn't a difficult job just split the tractor and replace it.

Almost definitely the damper plate. It's rubber on the 50's and 60's. We did 3 in one year when using our 6160 on a mixit slurry stirrer, didn't use it on the stirrer after the 3rd one.

this is what you will find
Take the starter motor off and you will smell burnt rubber

Hi all,

It was indeed the damper, thanks all!

Is it likely this was just worn and failed due to age? Or is it particuarly weak on these models

We've only had the tractor 3 or 4 years, but it only has 3500 hours on it, (which I'm pretty sure this is genuine) and it seems to have been looked after

We were towing a trailer when it failed a the weekend, and it gave no indication it was going to fail. We use the tractor for loading 99% of the time, but we also cart bales with it and this year we also mowed with it, but the mower hasn't been on since July.

Could the mower have caused it? I'm wondering if I should mow with something else.

Thanks

Wouldn't have thought it if its a disc mower. Ours went on our 6150 at around 7000 hours, she has the pump tweeked on her as well, had it on a zero grazer with a 7ft drum mower on it when it went, think the drum mower starting up would have been hard on it.
