Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

borderterribles have you been given any exercises in the past to open up the hand/wrist? I know that when my wrists and thumb hurt an exercise that my physio gave me (pinching thumb and first finger together, fanning out the other fingers and raising the hands above the head until they meet/cross over) helps. The symptoms are not as bad as yours though and I do try to rest the bad hand as much as I can if it is playing up and try to stretch the tendons as much as possible by bending the wrist and using gentle pressure to stretch the hand forwards or back as far as possible

Had both of mine done at same time 14 years ago (family history of it too.) It got really bad after i did all the steel work on the yards for our dairy. Got to the point of not being able to feel my thumb whilst riding the quad ,getting the cows in. I don't get pins and needles like i used to , but now i get cramps if i'm doing some delicate work like tying to do a nut up on a hard to get at bolt. I didn't have keyhole surgery either, and i must say the pain after the aniesthetic wore of was horrendous..

A friend of mine had both hers done and says it was worth it. It's not 100% but it's so much better now. I guess it's unlikely to make it worse so worth a shot, only problem is not being able to use hand for a couple of weeks after.

Went to GP Nov 15 re pain in left wrist, she suspected ulnar impaction ( def not CT) so sent to surgeon for appointment 8 weeks later and his advice was to have tests for CT on both wrists. He COULD refer me but being a diplomatic type he preferred that my GP re-consider which took a further 6 weeks or so.
I was then given the option of local NHS after a 5 month wait or other NHS trust in 6 weeks but an extra hours travelling - I took the 6 week option which then involved a consultant appointment an 2 more appointments for ultrasound scans and "electric fence shock analysis" before being offered CT op on both wrists at about 6 weeks apart - you need very good friends if you have them both done at once. 6 months later I am seeing a massive improvement with most of the symptoms gone.

I've had it for about 10 years, I find it's much worse in the winter milking with cold hands & nitrile gloves
Some mornings I wake up & can't move my fingers on my right hand, particularly 4th & 5th
I've had the electric fence test at hospital, that was like a weird type of torture ! They decided that I didn't need the operation at the time.
It's difficult to have time off but I will eventually have to have it done
My Auntie had the op years ago and my sister has had it recently
