What do I need for a JD6150 to go auto steer

As above, considering using 6150R for drilling this spring and would like to have auto steer. What do I need, I see various bits and pieces on eBay but I don't know what I need. Tractor I think is greenstar ready, it's got the roof bracket for the dome anyway. I know I need a receiver and a screen but which ones and what else, steering valve, wiring looms?

Is it greenstar ready or autotrac ready? if it's autotrac ready depending if your screen that's already in the tractor can do greenstar or not you should just need a dome for the roof but might need another screen but I'd doubt it if it's got a bracket for a dome. If it's steer ready there will be a cable running along the front axle to the right hub for the steering sensor.

Pretty sure it's just the dome its ready for, there's no wire going to the hub. So do you mean you can operate it through the command centre? What's the difference between an 1800-2600-2630 screens?

I know plenty folk operating it through the command centre so it can be done I can't see why they put a bracket on the roof if it's not steer ready. check both sides of the from axle if it's steer ready there's a wire somewhere going to the top pin on the hub to get a steering position. A quick call to your dealer will soon tell you if it is or not just by checking the serial number.

Well I want it accurate enough for drilling with 3m drill. Depending who I speak to I get differing opinions of what I need. Budget as always is as little as possible [emoji23]

Is your 6150 performing better now?

I don't understand why people buy manufacturer fitted autosteer. You can buy a trimble ez pilot and 750 screen ready to go for 5.5k.

Was quoted 12k extra to get a new fastrac to autosteer.

No thanks I'll just transfer my ez pilot that's been on previous tractor for 6k hours.

I think it is, it got a software update last summer and to be honest I hadn't really driven it for anything strenuous until the last month or so, it's holding its speed up better on the road so I'm going to give it a go on the drill. I would be tempted to change it for bigger with guidance built in if the right deal came along but can't see that happening this year.

I spoke to hrn salesman today, going to price up the options but he thinks a steering wheel motor, with a screen and dome will be best for us as can interchange with other machines.

What accuracy are you getting with £5500 of Trimble kit? I did speak to them at rhs last year and they were talking something like £12k for a set up with steering valves.

Factory fit autosteer on our new jd last year was about a quarter of that figure. Just sf1.

You'll get a second hand screen dome etc fairly cheap but stick with jd satellite gear you'll not go wrong with it. I'm surprised your tractor isn't steer ready if it's got a bracket for the dome on it.

It's on range point rtx. Makes a tidy job of sowing with seed and fert in front box mounted above packer wheels.

What's an approx cost of this please? Can the 1800 screen still be bought new or is it old tech now? My rep was going to email me details tonight but nothing's come through and he's off on holiday next week.

What's the accuracy of sf1 sf2 and how much extra to upgrade?

Edit: just had a browse of JD website and now understand what's what. Still keen to hear price though.

Can I just say be careful wot u buy second hand jd wise,I no that there are no more software updates available for the 1800 and 2600 screens now as we were told on a operators course the other day.It was also said that the 2630 screen has not got that much life left in it.Only passing on what we were told.

Thanks for your input, what do you think that means? If they are still selling the 1800 new then surely they will still be keeping it working with software? Can you comment on this @CPP?

As an aside question, can you measure the size of a field on the 1800 box, setting your AB line as you go? I have always assumed this was how it worked but I'm used to an EZ guide.

The 2600 display is a discontinued screen it's had all the software and devolpment that it will get
It's still a prefectly good screen for guidance a variable rate and a easy touch screen to operate

The 1800 is still current production and still a supported product
And I've not heard any thing yet that it's going to stop

The 2630 display is also still current and a very good working system
For guidance ISO bus and documation with my John deere and gatekeeper more so than some of the others

The 1800 display you can measure boundarys and set guidance lines as you go
