I rang them - it is one where there is a Direct line to them, and asked to discuss the quote, thinking they may have got the decimal point in the wrong place. The agent wanted the date the house was built, and I told them it was early 1700, but was not around at the time. He did not bat a hair, just said they wanted the exact date!!! Oh well!
Had the same response from Aviva after we'd moved in, they said we should ask the previous owners (who didn't know either). They would insure us if the house was built in 1800 but not in 1799. :scratchhead:

I had a call from the bank - had I spent a large amount of money on line in a well known store? No, I had not. Debit card had been used, but the bank had spotted it very quickly. So sorting out a new card today and all that faff. I asked the bank security team that as the transactions had been made on line, the thief had obviously given a delivery address and so can be tracked down, and would this happen? No, the store would not give the information as it would breach the Data Protection Act. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

And they wonder why on line fraud is going up....

Repeated very petty crime, who repeatedly steals/removes a single bridleway finger post?

The third one has gone now where a bridleway comes off the road across land I rent. They were wooden post and have been sawn off. Its not like drain covers were all they take all of them along a stretch of road.

I like finger posts (at least ones like the above which didn't get in the way of machinery), they are great for point out to wayward walkers who try to claim the RoW wasn't signed having just walk past them.

People getting pets with exactly zero thought and taking no responsibility for their future

We ventured into Pets at Home today to buy some goldfish for the cattle water troughs and a girl was crying at the counter because she had bought a pair of guinea pigs a few weeks ago and had brought them back as she was going to college and couldn't keep them and the shop wouldn't take them back. Surely she should have thought of this before buying them in the first place?!!

And then I was discussing the subject with the Other Half and went on Preloved to illustrate my point to then find a dog for rehoming that had only been owned a month but they had to get rid because they were not allowed pets in their flat and had been reported despite "sneaking it in and out". I despair :cry::cry: (and am now sitting on my hands to stop myself driving off with the required £50 to get said dog)

And being cynical I bet these are people who if asked would say commercial livestock farming is cruel :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

What is a finger post? Just a post with an arrow on it?

Lambing. I prefer machinery and plants but have to do half night shifts. All that slime and gloop and you are kneeling in it. And then it's stuck or something and it won't cooperate. And it's not like you can get the gas axe or the big hammer and go for a cuppa to think about it. And mothers and children come to watch. They think it's awesome but at any moment it can turn into a horrific medical emergency that hasn't been seen by ordinary people since medieval times, usually because a sheep is so stupid it will stand at the ring feeder and eat and eat until its arse blows out.
