Has anyone on here looked into domestic sized units lately? We have to move the oil boiler in the house in the next few months, and it's crossed my mind to look at replacing it full stop, with either chip, or Ground Source. Would be interested to hear any quotes people have had for the fitting of either lately?

We installed a ground source heat pump last March for £17k which included radiators through the house, we have saved heating oil and coal of approx. £1k, and our electric bill has also gone down by approx. £500 as we were on economy 7 storage heaters. The RHI payment is £3k per year for seven years, therefore we will get back the capital investment along with the interest paid on a loan that was taken out, and the house is now warmer than it ever was.
The only down side is that with GSH the temp through radiators is only 50 c, therefore you need fan assisted rads if under floor heating cannot be done.
Overall very satisfied

What kW is your heat pump? £17k doesn't sound too bad.

do you have some means of heating the hot water tank to a higher temp, 50 deg is not enough because it is not hot enough to kill legionella properly.

It is built into the system that it heats it up once a week to a temp which I cant remember

Surprised it's not able to heat water to 65*

Your system "purges" once a week to combat legionella

See if your cylinder is twin coil and if so install a solar thermal panel

solar thermal is not guaranteed to get to the required temp, an electric immersion heater is usually what they use once a week to comply with water regs.
