Aspen can be a nightmare for roots so dont plant near roads tracks or where you may want to plough!

Copper beech always look good. I've just planted a red oak this winter for something a bit different. Walnut green and black varieties and sweet chestnut are doing well too. Fruit trees such as pear, cherry and apple also provide a useful meal when out on the farm.

I pulled some maple saplings which had self seeded on a redundant water board site we bought and replanted next to the yard. They are beautiful for a short time in the autumn and not over big.
i'm a big fan of the Hornbeam.

We have a couple of rowan they don't seem to grow too large and have lovely red berries in autumn which the birds enjoy.

Copper Beech for your great-grandchildren to enjoy.
Yarborough Estates have an impressive copper beech wood if you're ever near Humberside Airport.
Cherry is pretty, as is Rhododendron and Gorse.
Depends if it's just odd trees or a dedicated fenced off block?
