I thought it was just me that didnt like bleddy galv, I usually hook into it with a sanding disc and peel it off with that.. any other tips? Other than chuck it awayfirst thing you should do when welding galv is throw it as far down the yard as you can manage.
Evil hateful stuff. Even when you think you got it spotless it still spits and fecks the welder up
And there I was feeling a bit OTT with 120hp on the spinner, and no front weights.
wee wee wee all the way home
In true bodging fashion I spent time cleaning the ends of my galv box section to make gates etc etc.Back to the galv, what tips are out there
Like you, grind the bugger off as much as you can.I thought it was just me that didnt like bleddy galv, I usually hook into it with a sanding disc and peel it off with that.. any other tips? Other than chuck it away
I'm only arc welding it so I spend a fairly unhealthy amount of time prepping IMO
I also spend a fair bit of time chamfering or bevelling or whatever you call it.
As I said, most of my welding time is sticking this rusty thing to that rusty thing often filling in gaps with rod after rod, or welding overhead... will get a mig one day soon but just can't afford anything that I really like.. I will possibly do that in winter when our farm fielddays are on, nearly everything farmwise is on discount to some degree.
Back to the galv, what tips are out there
Real bad those fumes ,avoid it if you canIn true bodging fashion I spent time cleaning the ends of my galv box section to make gates etc etc.
Then I worked out it's actually faster to turn the heat up and weld through the galv.
In a well ventilated shed and only for these gates, nothing any more structural.
