....I've tried so hard to resist.... But I'm going to have to unleash the harrows and the roller. My place looks like some sort of minimalist desert surrounded by green pinstripes. Seriously, Sunday morning Devon looked like it had a stripy waistcoat on, by sunset it was the full 3 piece. Is it just me or do all the theories and pisstakes about recreational diesel burning go straight out the window when you're literally the only one who hasn't bothered?

I drove past a ~30 acre field in Shropshire, today. It had been striped with a 10' roller.

That must have been soul-destroying!

I would happily volunteer to do some rolling at the moment, not worried about width and acreage, just one condition, the tractor must be open topped

There's a certain satisfaction in a nicely rolled field and it does do good, closes up the top to reduce evaporation, encourages the grass to tiller and most important of all knocks in the stones so the contractor doesn't blow up his mower or chopper.

TBF, it's a useful tool in the employer's armoury when the land is dry, other jobs can wait for the wet forecast and the young man you have kindly taken on placement from the local college has his hands in his pockets............

Saw a chap rolling with one yesterday must have been going about 15 MPH, at least the mud was flying off it

Just think of it as practice for when it comes to planting time, send the student out and you'll see the ones that will make a decent drillman in time

For a grown adult yes, that would have been rather dull, for a 12 year old kid of School it would have been pure bliss..

Only thinking this morning if my 10 ballast roller could be fitted with a rear linkage for mounting a Brown's type arerator and just lower it on a spool as don't seam right when people put them on front linkage before rolling it back in again.

Your probably not wrong, I still think there are loads of young lads and lassies who would jump at the chance of doing it for real - at least I really hope so.
