Personally I don't like any crossbreed cows, well maybe the kiwi cross is ok. Managing a herd of cows is hard enough without adding random shapes sizes and yieldsWould you personally prefer the pure Holstein than that cross?

That's why I think the kiwi cross is good consistent offspringA 2 way x with breeds that compliment each other should be OK. Its 3 ways that make me go Cross-eyed
Yes you get the benefit of the fresian, hardly any of the disadvantages of the HolsteinYou can't beat the Holstein friesian cross imo. Best of both worlds.
Bookems are fantasticI think I may try some of each. Sexed premier and Chad for the Friesian. Any suggestions for the Holsteins?

is the extra income going to cover the extra costs of level supplyWe're starting a new contract with Roddas on the first April which is right for us for a number of reasons. The downside is that I need a more level profile. In the past we've served Friesian from Christmas till April then put a limo sweeper bull in which we sell at a month old for reasonable money. My thoughts are now to calve 100 between October and Christmas. Then sync another group to calve in March then turn the bull in. But what should I serve my March calvers too?
1.Should I serve them to sexed Friesian or Holstein, calve them first week in August to boost milk in my lowest months and aim to sell them when my main block start calving in October.
2. Just put the lim or Hereford bull in.

Friend of mine switched to Montbelliard (?) and said feet were so much better, and the vets bill disappeared!View attachment 493496
Organic farm I was on had a fair number of Monty x Friesians, unfortunately they thought they were crap and got shut of a lot of them, but in subsequent lactations they proved awesome both yield wise and mastitis proof. Also Shorthorns.. noisy buggers at calving time though!
