I'm sorry but they don't have the right to run roughshot over planning rules.
But councils do drag their heels. Lets have a time limit on planning applications like to 28 day prior approval.
Having spent 5 years in planning , appeal and on a ministers desk...the rules having changed many times i feel their frustration!

Come as a bit of a shock to the local farming community too.
Thing is we have had planning from Anglesey CC for 3 very large sheds without any problems but it was a condition of any bank loan we took that planning had to be agreed before any money was released so I do wonder if any heads will role at HSBC for this farrago

In the urban areas planning for home extension rules were "relaxed" some years ago! Not sure whether this applied to farm developments. Probably local councillors in Anglesey are looking at precedent set by other failed and granted similar developments. Much comes down to "political arguememts" more so than physical design and integration. They've take a bit of a risk no doubt prompted by frustration which is understandable. Planning decisions need to be max 3-4 months for such a development. Surely in that time all the necessary background data can be collected and analysed? Good luck to them - at least they are trying to make a business for emselves - that in itself should be applauded!

I still don't know how or why anybody can become a councillor or a polititian whithout some form of qualification, the only thing most of them are good at is YAPPING and jumping on the gravy train !!
David shaw is standing for Scotland council elections beginning may

You buy a farm 2016. You're business plan says you'll be spring calving 2017. Got to bull your heifers and build a parlour. Planning officer says it'll be fine.

Sure they didn't follow the rules, but I know I'd do the same if I were in their position.

I know the two very well, fair play i say.

I've got a planning application in with Anglesey Council at the moment, because were on the edge of 3km from an air field we had to go for full planning, had an email today asking for an extension for the ministry of defence to get back to them. What should i do? In my mind i should carry on and erect it?

And we wonder why we don't have any youngsters coming into the industry when they just get hurdles constantly thrown at them.

Yes rules are there for a reason but for Christ sake stop taking the pee and give a time scale. If people can't object within 1 month then they should sodding well loose they right to. If the council then can't make a decision on the back of that within another month then you should be able to plough on

Can't like that enough, I totally agree.

Imagine if a company wanted to build houses for forward going people to live in the country? They've worked hard and built up equity and should be allowed to better themselves with a house in the country.
Just build 150 on your neighbours without waiting for planning why not? They are ambitious after all?

But i do agree with @Headless chicken

This application was approved by the planning officers and satisfies all council requirements. Would have sailed through were it not for ONE retired pain in the arse living opposite. Who from the outset of them buying the farm has tried his best to stifle any plans these lads had. He is the one who beat peoples doors for signatures, and would not leave without one. I would possibly argue that this is the direct result of a personal vendetta.

This 280 acre farm was run as a ranch, grazed by a snowdonia sheep farmer for the past 30yrs. With absolutely no investment made. Returning NOTHING to the local economy, and creating no employment. Over the past 12 months these lads have reseeded the whole farm, put in tracks, and started their setup, taking on 2 young local lads in full time employment, and a further 2 part time. I would fully expect them to win at appeal, thus incurring very heavy costs on the local taxpayers.

How do you get to £3m for a 240 cow unit? The shouldn't of built it IMO, if councils rush through decisions when they're busy, we'd end up with all sort of crap being built.
