AD Plant Smell

Because people did not want to object, or maybe even supported green energy being produced in their area, you label them as ' apathetic '

Do you class your self as a NIMBY, or just very bad mannered ?

I don't think think apathy is to far away. Events held up here for the gasification plant information days, local meetings to discuss the plant etc were all very badly attended.

Its really hard to describe and I can't comment on other plants but I was really surprised.

There is very little smell from our digestate derived from silage and whole crop, in fact when spread with a dribble bar you can't smell it more than a few paces away from the edge of the field.

The food waste derived stuff seems to have a bad reputation however.

Seems interesting, however, I think this is maybe Political ?

Kill- on the previous page makes the accusation, "has people living near that are all being affected by blistering in and around their mouths and are blaming gas released by the sludge" where perhaps the wording would have maybe been more appropriate as " one person has allegedly been affected by blistering in and around the the mouth....."
In addition, after my response and my request for further info, a new poster Bridget has poster the link ??????

Also, this is a strange comment: Either Environmental Health are dismissing our residents as liars or do not attribute any concern as to their human rights to be able to live and enjoy their homes

Which would indicate a lack of concern by the Environment Agency, which I find strange (as will most other posters who have experience working with the Environment Agency)

If of course the complainant Mrs Faulkner, can prove her health problems are associated to the smell, then of course she is perfectly entitled to fight for compensation. My personal view is, it is highly unlikely.

Having looked into the details of this plant, it is clear all feed-stocks are Agricultural (Cow slurry, Maize, Grass, FYM) therefore there should be no issues for concern, over and above normal farms smells and odour.

Edited to add: A report is available here:https://democracy.middevon.gov.uk/documents/s8310/Cleave Crossparks Scrutiny Briefing Mar 2017 v3.pdf

I gave up reading after page 6, everyone can read it and draw there own conclusions..........

You make a valid point, and one the larger (food waste) operators should heed.

Most odour from a food-waste plant generally comes from the reception building, this is because ' best practice ' is not being followed. Keep the place closed up !! Clean down regularly !! or suffer the consequences !!

Thankfully the problem is isolated and not widespread.

Chicken muck is also a very large ingredient in these plants as I am sure they take a large portion of the chicken muck from some very large chicken farms local to that area

Due to it's N content, Chicken/Poultry Manure is limited as a percentage of the overall feed-stock for Anaerobic Digestion.

Very interesting. I know the site and the operator and some of the complaints that are leveled at the site are quite wide ranging and often based on misunderstandings.

We have a huge AD plant across the field from us and it stinks. They take the majority of food waste from across this part of Gloucestershire. They have 4 huge lagoons which they are constantly tanking out of or pumping out of across the fields.
None of the local village have a good word to say about the place. Not just because of the smell but because of the increase of traffic through the village.
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...especially as they work on a poultry farm! and also need to learn to count !
