Drought

Certainly showers around here today, looked some sizable ones, a bit of rain on the cold front but nothing to warrant getting excited over, the showers just passed us by, passing by the side of us, left and right.

Absolutely rubbish here. No rain today but lots of gusty wind now to start the sand blowing. Preem on beet and spring barley a joke as well as all the other expensive inputs. Grass growth slowing down. Big cracks in the clay, sand breaking down to dust. Getting desperate really. Rubbish rubbish and more rubbish! Don't even like being here watching it all TBH, but it was ever thus many years so philosophical about it. Must be a better way forward. Grass probably. Going to buy a metal detector.

We are very lucky here ,,,, all crops at the moment look well , only concern is maize as we will need some rain to get this expensive to grow crop away ,,,,,, still got some linseed to drill but that will wait till rain , what linseed I drilled 10 days ago is up in row , spring barley looks well at the moment

Lost our best conker tree last night/this morning. Windy, but not that windy. Would the dry weather have an affect?

Rubbish day here- rain seemed to be all around us but only grabbed a 5 min shower.

Think I'll be cutting back the N3 rate if we miss all the rain this week.

Same here didn't even get a shower, in fact it's been the most drying day we have had for a while.........mind we seem used to being dry here most springs, at least this year we are not alone

Had to go into Norwich today, fairly decent shower whilst there. Drove home and the road got noticeably less wet along the way. A mile from home, and the road was dry.

Main worry is barley on sand (although looks okay so far) and soon to be maize on sand, hoping for a good shower in the next 48 hours, forecast looks more settled after then, as far as I can tell.

171mm for the year so far. If that trend continues, that's 513mm for the year.

Annual average is near 750mm. So either it's going to be the driest year on record or there is going to be a massive wet spell to come.
