@martian - he probably not everyones cup of fruit herbal tea infused pomegranite but I always thought Jules Pretty could be potentially an interesting speaker but possibly not enough mud on his boots. In a sort of "what are we trying to acheive with sustainability" type way
I think we should be getting past the sustainable agriculture and heading for REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE.

Tickets will be available shortly, so to encourage you to look for your cheque-books here's a bit of an update. We've booked Dr Christine Jones, who's flying over from Australia especially to talk on both days and I am stupidly excited about hearing her. We've also got Joel Williams who'll be going (metaphorically) deep into the soil in one of the seminar barns. It sounds like Keith Thompson, inventor of the Thompson wheel that a lot of American farmers use as closing wheels on their drills, instead of Guttlers, is going to join us as well.

There was talk of having a little tent with Mystic Simon telling the future (basically instructing every farmer: 'you're going to grow all your crops in the future without tillage'). Auditions for the role of the Mystic will be taking place shortly.

How about a catch a duck stall with BASF Bailye?

And do you know of an idiot to put on the ducking stool?...

Are both days going to have different speakers? Thinking of coming up for both days, will book early this time.
Some of the speakers will be talking on both days, but their talks will be different on each day and tailored to suit (ie animal or arable).

In terms of booking early...now is your chance, tickets have just gone on sale (in a slightly easier format than last year):

Also, for those who struggled with the compost loos last year, you'll be thrilled to hear we have a new plan this time and it won't be nearly so scary

@martian I would love to attend the grass day but the logistics may well be too complicated for me. How much of the discussions, info will be available afterwards? ie podcasts, video, documents etc.
Obviously wont be anywhere near as good as being there.
Thanks

I notice that there are no strip till drills in the list of demonstrators, at least so far. Is this a conscious decision or mere coincidence?

It was an unconscious decision really. There are more and more low and ultra-low disturbance drills being made and we filled the available space with these and now haven't got room for any others to demo. Then it seemed sensible, as we are calling it The No-till Day, to feature no-till drills. I must admit, being something of a zealot, I found it quite painful watching some of the machines churring up our field last year, so I'm happy that there will be less disturbance this time...

That's understandable, and as the host on a no-till farm, a rational reason.

I'm disappointed though because I enjoyed the variety of direct drills working last year alongside each other. Infact in the sticky morning conditions, I felt the strip till drills, and Dale, were making the nicest jobs. The event features more livestock orientated presentations this year. I'd have thought a lot of mixed farmers would be interested in the strip till drills, given their suitability to follow and establish forage crops, as we do. Nonetheless, I'm sure you'll have an excellent event.

£55 for the No-till Day and £45 for the Grass Fed Day or £85 if you want to come to both. Plus Eventbrite booking fee and VAT. It's all coming together nicely, we've even got no-till potatoes making an appearance

No-till demands total obedience from it's disciples! [emoji6]

Really enjoyed it last year but don't think I'll make it this year as baby no1 due on the 20th June.

We are very pleased to announce that Affinity Water are our headline sponsors this year. This is both complimentary and complementary, in other words we're thrilled to have their backing and it makes perfect sense for a water company to promote no-till and pasture-fed animal rearing, as we are all, directly or indirectly, in the business of improving the water cycle and water quality. Properly executed, no-till and mob-grazing can have a massive effect on the amount of rainwater that land can absorb and use to recharge groundwater reserves, rather than coursing over the surface, eroding soil as it goes and carrying pollutants into watercourses.

We want to use some of this sponsorship cash to explore different ways of no-till farming without glyphosate. Even if it isn't banned, we ought to be able to do without it. We're looking at York's electric option and I'd like to have some mechanical demos too. If anyone has any bright ideas please get in touch. The future starts here!
