Been to Dads this morning to clear up the unofficial campsite in his woodland

20170425_112907.jpg

Upon calling out there was an answer from 2 young people inside. It turns out that the chap living in it was made homeless a month ago when a refuge closed in Hoddesdon. He's camping here as his pregnant girlfriend has a flay nearby but she'll be evicted if he moves in. They both seem "a bit simple" but harmless. They helped me to clear their rubbish up and I've told them we won't be kicking them off in a hurry so long as they keep the place tidy.

What's wrong with modern society? The complaints about them have come from well-off self-righteous folk trespassing into the wood to walk their dogs who don't like to see "their" wood used like that.

Grow up

I have had a couple of "new age travellers" in a bus in a remote wood at the far end of the farm for over 20 years. If I had moved them on they would be just another statistic and another problem for other people. I don't want herds of them, so actually they protect my patch by keeping others off, that's the agreement. It has worked, so if you like the two I have are the "vaccine" that keeps things in control! I also feel good that I don't just do the kneejerk and kick them off. Not all travellers/homeless are benign, but the majority are and unfortunately get tarred with the brush of the minority, actually if more farms found a bit of a corner somewhere for the good ones then society would benefit. As you say, the main complaints have been from trespassers, or people just moved into a house in the area. And the Council!! Wanted me to move them on, even though they have no travellers pitches as per the law. Fought the council off on the basis that I would consider moving them off once the council provided them with an alternative, obviously didn't happen. Council then tried, no planning permission for caravan, I said I had no PP for my house either. That's OK its a very old house, been there for hundreds of years, they said. That's OK then, says I, there have been itinerant travellers on that site for hundreds of years as well. Never heard from them again.

Out of good luck rather than made to measure the little gate will catch onto the pen gate (once I make a catch) if needed aswell which will make a longer narrow pen,

a bit of concrete and tidy the old wall of the building up and it will be finished
