I'm hanging sheep gates some are on sloping ground with over a foot in a 12' gate can dig down on some. How would you normally close the gap? Tia

I've used a scaffold board tied dangling from bottom of gate. .leave the wire or whatever you tie it with on the long side though. Also seen same board used wrapped in rabbit net. But this is prone to ripping or grassing in if gate not used regular.
I intend to try rubber mats from cubicles cut to size and attached to bottom bar with cable ties thing that would be neatest way and the sheep would see ouyt so less likeky to try?

I saw some 15 foot gates that a [so called] professional fencing firm had put in a fence line, they hung them level so one end was touching the ground and the other was high enough for a sheep to walk under without bending its neck FFS

I always try and level the gateway first. Dig down one end of gate and build up other end. It's always going to be a pain in the arse otherwise. Don't know if this is possible for you though.

On gates with gaps I sometimes hang fence posts or rails on the bottom with wire. You might have to put a big stone either side then to stop sheep pushing through.

Surely a gate needs to be hung so that it's tidy, level & horizontal when it's closed, and any dips filled with stone/dirt (or hanging a rail under)? Otherwise it will annoy you every single time you see it from across the field.:banghead:

I always try to make it look right when it's closed, even if I have to put the hooks in 'off the vertical' so that it can swing uphill/downhill to clear uneven ground. Have also hung a couple of gates angled so that they close themselves, where they are regularly used by 'careful folk' from the shoot,or dogwalkers.

A gate on level ground should swing open on its own it should also swing shut on its own, you do this buy making the high point of the swing at the mid point of the swing

this is not to say all our gates are hung up perfect quite a few are tied up with string :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
