May hay

Not judging folk but would say is not ideal haymaking weather, warm, humid, no wind plus young sappy grass ??

Sweltering heat here and, having missed every bit of the promised rain last week:cry:, the ground is still absolutely dry. Usually at this time of year, any 'hay' will be drawing moisture up from the ground.
It would want to be a light crop to make though I'd have thought, not an old crop with lots of stems to dry out.

Cut grass at 3pm yesterday, and I plan to bale it into haylage tomorrow.
Admittedly a light crop, but in all honesty if I had smashed It about three or four times yesterday with the Lely Lotus 600 instead of just twice, it would be hay tomorrow; such is the current hot weather and moisture deficiency.
It may well be too dry for haylage by tomorrow. Two day hay in May!l

Mine looks mostly there already, apart from the stems.... I'll see what tomorrow brings, but baler coming late tomorrow afternoon, so it'll be hay or dry haylage by then, or (more likely) some of each. I'd rather pay to wrap it, than get it hit by a thunderstorm on Saturday for the sake of trying to be clever.
June hay is rare enough, May would be a first for me.
