Has anyone here had an audit for their biomass system?
We're about to have one on the first of June and wondering what to expect:

yes we have had five audits on various customer installations, if you get someone who knows his job he will be looking at everything based on what was uploaded to the rhi. he will be taking heat meter readings and comparing them with invoices of chips/ pellets bought. etc. the meter stores data for six years on a monthly basis. some of them don't know one end of a piece of pipe from the other. basically he is supposed to look at everything.

if you are your own fuel supplier you have to register your self as such and you have to keep a record, they can take money off you if required. if you buy your fuel you must have receipts that tally up with the kwh that is on the meter. (it is not an exact calc but it has to be in the ball park) you cannot have loads of mw on the meter and no proof of fuel bought, the heat meters are easy to doctor the readings so you must have proof of fuel used/bought etc. they are paying out lots of money and so they require an audit trail. even down to using the correct type of outside pipe, normal pipe with insulation used outside is no use unless you have a meter at each end. if you have the correct underground pipe for external use you do not need heat meters at each end, they calc the watts per meter of pipe and take it off the reading, far better this way you are usually far better off having your system changed to a heat loss calc system. also you are allowed to have the boiler buffer heat meter on the boiler side of the mixer, it used to be a requirement to have it on the buffer side of the mixer so the heat used warming up was not paid for.

What sort of fuel used records do they need? We self supply and registered on the BSL but we don't invoice ourselves for the fuel we use.

a record of what fuel you have used and where it came from and when.
i created a form for ourselves, so when we get some wood we fill a form in, pop it in the folder (supposed to be kept near the boiler)

not sure on that one, it is a separate company that does the audits and as far as I know installations are picked at random unless they have a reason to visit. out of 200 installations we have had five audits. some of the auditors are very good but we have had ones that were very new to the job and had no idea what to look for.

Our installation was audited due to delays in commissioning the system initially. Ended up having to resubmit application.

How many of the f0sters audits where to do with initial application and how many ongoing auditing?

Good luck! Ours was very simple, he looked at meter readings fuel receipts and the building where the heat was been used. His only suggestion was that we should record the heat meter reading monthly instead of just when we submitted the readings.

always nice to have a "easy" improvement, and as its not a requirement, you dont need to bother

No real issues with our audit. We need to be actively keeping weekly fuel records, and recommended that we record our monthly meter readings.
